Rattling Diesel... Normal?

I’m not sure if this is normal or not, but my TDV8 has a slightly metallic rattle when under load... it’s not awful but I can hear it (almost plasticky, like a bearing rattle?) above what is actually a nice V8 rumble.

Does this sound like anything familiar?

I’d love to get even more of the lovely V8 sound but I’d like to lose this “acceleration rattle” first!

Before my current RRS I had a FFRR Westminster. I only had it for a month as it kept throwing up an EML due to an EGR issue that the Main Dealer failed to sort. Strangely, it also had a raucous metallic rattle under hard acceleration that bothered me. It was my only venture into the V8 world and was part of the reason I swopped it for my current car. I have always wondered if it was normal as the car went like greased weasel s..t. Maybe I should have just got used to it?

This is exactly where I am on this; I just don't know it it's "normal"...

I've owned lots of V8s and also lots of diesels, but never a diesel V8 - and when the slightly diesel-esque rattle on mine fades, or if I am wallowing along with low revs, there is a lovely deep V8 noise. I'd like to hear more of it!

I'm thinking about back box deletes to let the sound out, but I don't want to amplify or exaggerate a rattly noise.

I'm wondering about belts and pulleys... are there any likely suspects?

My TDV8 rattles it head off very badly at times and yet other times its as smooth (almost) as a petrol. It is not consistant. Only 37,000km on the clock (23,000 miles).
I gave up trying to fix the problem.

Have you tried running on the Super Diesel? If the rattle you're referring to is diesel knock, then you may find it disappears with the better fuel.

Also worth noting that adding 2SO will also reduce the clatter... but research it fully before you decide. There's always massive debate on the subject.
Personally I run my SDV6 with it at 200:1, semi synth. JASO FC. On every fill.
Also used in a 300Tdi and a TD5. 2011 MY D4 HSE

Could this be a vanos rattle? Is that common on a TDV8?

And are there any other engine flush /additives / magic potions that might reduce the noise?

I was wondering about an oil change, maybe thicker oil? Or am I barking up the wrong lamppost?

The TDV8. sounds like a "Mack Truck' on the outside, its normal. Inside its a different story but you can still tell its a diesel.

Its normal.

Must admit never noticed any rattles on mine, smooth as owt for want of a better description whether it's from cold or not,,, not that I have a trained ear mind. It's coming up to 105k on the clock, I've had it nearly 6 years now and never let it run more than 5000 mls without changing it, always using castrol oil. Always use Asda fuel but most times also add Millars diesel ecomax additive, never had any issues with gummed up or fouled MAP sensors, always starts fine. 2010 RRS, TDV8
bali Blue / colour coded
side steps / flappy paddles
black perforated leather
22" overfinch
heated everything, TV,fridge ...... now with gold calipers and mud flaps !( black mud flaps that is) !!
Many years ago,,,,, 1955 series 1 landie , sometimes wish I had kept it
