Hesitation between gears

Hi all,

Got my RRS last week and I have not had an automatic before so need a little advice if this is normal.
My question is that when I'm driving along the road, I accelerate, the car hesitates. It feels like it can't decide on what gear to go in. The revs which are around 2000rpm go up and down quite a bit and it is slightly hesitant and jerky and doesn't feel smooth.

Like I say, I've not had an automatic before and I am wondering if this is normal. Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks in advance.

No that's not normal. How many miles has it done? Has the gearbox oil been changed recently?

sounds like the torque converter may be on its way out... try a transmission fluid change and maybe a pouch of Dr Tranny to see if it improves it. Bodsys Brake Bible

Oh dear!

It's 158k miles and I've just got it so not sure if the oils been changed.

Just don't fancy a big repair bill.
How much is a torque converter?

Not good.

But thank you.
I'm with the AA and have this parts and labour cover. I'll have to check and see if it's covered.

Fingers crossed!

If you've just bought it, i.e. less than 3 months, you'd have come-back on the dealer/seller.

Could also be worth resetting the autobox memory. I believe it 'learns' your driving style, maybe the previous owner was not that sure footed. Worth a try as it's free.

From another thread wrote:

Turn the ignition switch to 2 so that the electrics are on but the engine is not started

Press the brake pedal firmly for 40 seconds

Turn the ignition off and start the engine.

The system should reset itself and adapt itself to your driving style.

I've tried the re-set. Will see how that goes.

It was quite a good deal anyway so wouldn't expect much from the seller. I'm still waiting for him to send the spare key.
