L494 facelift rear lights - DEFINITIVE ANSWER

Hello

I know there is a lot of talk on here about people doing this upgrade on the rear lights, but no definitive answer from someone who has done this particular upgrade:

2018 facelift rear lights onto a pre 2016 L494

A lot of people saying it needs a "re-pin" or modification to work on a pre 2016 car. I know you need to make sure you get the proper UK lights for UK cars, but there are some say it works without a mod, some say it needs a mod.....who's right?

Could anyone who has done this to a pre 2016 car (mine is 64 reg 2015) definitively say what was needed?

If it works, just doesn't do the sweep without a mod then so be it, but if it doesn't work without the mod then I bet Im not the only one who would like to know this, as well as exactly what the mod is.

Thank you all Smile Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Hi I have upgraded my lights on 2014 car and they work fine. Don’t get the dynamic / sweeping indicator effect but they flash fine.
No mods just plug and play.

I’m actually having new matrix Led lights fitted as I love the new front bumper and lights so had to have them! Will post pic once done! RRS SDV6 PHEV Autobiography - MY2018 conversion

You're having your headlights changed over to LED Matrix? That can't be cheap!

Agree but I am happy with the spec and low mileage of my car, if I wanted to upgrade i’d Need to spend £25k for a better touchscreen and fundemetally all functions the same except the obvious infomatinamant. As I aiming to keep the car i’m Doing the upgrade as I love the look. I’m getting 2018 SVR update as I like the new exhaust finishers and bumper. Also upgrading the steering wheel to new SVR with the touch buttons. I’ll post pic as soon as I get it back in next 2 weeks! RRS SDV6 PHEV Autobiography - MY2018 conversion

Go on, how much?! I really miss my Adaptive LEDs on my BMW, the Xenons feel like retrograde step.

Love the rear, what was the expense? I would really like the new rear as I've always thought the exhaust was wrong. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

Due to the colour lot more blending was required with the adjacent panels, to get the match required. Think if only the rest was done be £4K.

Cheapest way is on ebay there are second hand bits you can buy £1800, with spraying of parts £500 and maybe some labour £600 you could get it done circa £3k. RRS SDV6 PHEV Autobiography - MY2018 conversion

Congratulations, have to say that is a night and day difference. Makes the front look so outdated!
Did you have to change the front and rear wings in order to get the new bumpers to fit?
How tricky was it to fit the matrix lights?
Did you source out new parts yourself or go the ebay route?

Hi I had a specialist do all the work (unfortunately i don’t possess the skill to undertake this type of work!)

However to answer your questions -

Parts you can source from EBay would be cheapest way

You need to change front wings as new bumper and lights / grille are different dimensions

The matrix led lights needs new wiring harness, lighting module and programming (I do know a company that does a plug and play harness PM me if you want to know their details)

Rear bumper will fit like for like, you will need 2 dummy PDC sensors as new bumper has 6 sensors as per our 4.
