Might be advisable, Singletrack. Seriously, DIY "axle" stands are not much better than the wheel change jack with a vehicle the weight of an RRS. You could always get Paul B to nip over and pop it on in a couple of minutes, he seems to be the expert on the subject!! LOL Laughing

CV,

Screw you Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

I have made no claims about my personal skill or knowledge on this subject. I said I would ask JE and I have and I am simply conveying what I was told. Having said that, I am not totally without knowledge or experience on the subject, so I therefore, feel comfortably qualified to pass comment.

Paul

PaulB, thanks...thanks for taking the time to contact JE and get the information. It's pretty much as I imagined and would have done except that I did want advice on the process so as not to start down a path that just got more complicated as I went along. This is the kind of help one expect to find on a forum of this type...constructive advice and useful information. I sometimes bemoan the pages of irrelevant repartee (Caz - post the photo and let's move on....) but value the information which has been extremely helpful to my ownership experience so far.

CV - you seem to assume that the rest of us are idiots. I would not use DIY stands that are not rated for the weight of the car. What I am planning to use is stacks of empty tetrapak milk cartons on the assumption that their crush rate, (should the pile of firewood holding the car up roll off causing the car to drop down toward my prone body positioned under the rear transaxle), will allow me enough time to call my wife and ask her to hold the car up while I gather my tools and crawl out from underneath. The installation did not go off as intended - I had the car jacked (tetrapak cartons and a combination of beech and oak logs Wink ) and following a reconnaissance of the underside decided to assemble the JE exhaust in my entrance hall.

It is at this point that I discovered I had a "hanger" problem - specifically, the rear exhaust pipes just before the polished tips both had their hangers on the same side whereas the mounts on the car are mirrored (as you would expect).

When assembled, this resulted in the left hand hanger being upside down (see left side of photo). In other words, it would seem I was sent two right hand rear bits rather than the distinct left and right rear bits.

I have contacted Jonathan at JE for confirmation and hope to get this sorted soon. I have to say though, it is a very pretty exhaust Very Happy but my wife did not agree that we leave it assembled in the entrance hall as a temporary exhibit of automotive art Rolling Eyes

Oh! I'm away for a couple of days and all hell has broken loose! hehe Laughing My dear Singletrack, I did not for one moment think you an idiot, quite the contrary. I like your style Cool Pity JE sent you the wrong bit, tends to negate the point of the convo, really Rolling Eyes I trust JE will sort it out to your satisfaction.
PB's fatuous outburst is unworthy of comment.
