The way it’s going they may be out before the MY18 RRS SVR with black wheels.

On a serious note why don’t JLR stop chucking out unfinished under developed cars and get what they are building fully functioning then move to new products

Will be almost about £10,000 cheaper than the Sport SVR, but they will have the same problem with the normal Velar now in that the base car is very “basic” compared to the Sport (non SVR) so when you spec it with some goodies it ends up close to a Range Rover Sport price and then becomes a no brainier when you can purchase a Range Rover Sport.
So no doubt the SVR model will be exactly the same, with cost options on the Velar SVR will be standard equipment on the Sport SVR and then again why buy the Velar SVR when you can buy the Sport SVR which has more road presence and wow factor.

I totally aree with you Lyonhead,,I don't think the Velar SVR will have the wow factor like the RRS SVR.I know which I'm getting next time I change & it wont be a Velar.

If the Velar isnt selling now, how are they expecting a pricier version to sell?

LR marketed the Velar to sit between a sport and an evoque. I will always pick the sport over the other two and i think most people think the same. They are calling it the SV Coupe, Its too late as its now the sports little brother. If they called it a sport coupe in the beginning, and attached the 'sport' name to it, im sure they would sell more.

Either way, as long as my car gets through SVO unscathed and on time, i dont care.  2012 Evoque

Not sure what you feel a RRS can do that a Velar can't offroad? Ive had both and prefer the MY18+ RRS however the Velar was a brilliant packaged car.

In extremis, an RRS will go places a Velar just can't go. The lack of low range will ultimately stop the Velar dead in its tracks.* The RRS also has a decent towing capacity - although the SVR is lower rated than the standard versions, of course. Even so, the RRS SVR can tow stuff the Velar can't.

I admit it's a moot point, however, as almost none of either will ever go off road, but the point stands that the RRS will be better off road. Similarly with towing. But it's nice to know you can if you need to.

As I said, though, the Velar SVR isn't competing with the RRS SVR, it's competing with high performance estate cars. And other people make proper high performance estate cars that are designed to be just that. The Velar is a soft roader and that will always hamper it in that fight.

I enjoyed a brief drive in a Velar off road. Easy stuff and it did it well. I do like the Velar, I think it's a good looking vehicle, very comfortable etc. But it's an AWD estate car on stilts.



*At Les Comes a couple of years ago, we came across a Disco Sport that was spinning his wheels and, eventually, sliced his sidewall clean open. We drove up the same route in our RRSs in low range and didn't even notice the rocky step that had stopped, and then disabled, the DS. Low range made the difference. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
