My brother in law who is a keen plate buyer told me that the DVLA are loosening the requirement on spacing to promote more sales.

DVLA are not doing that. The Police may relax a bit on it due to paperwork/time but it's not an official 'relaxing'. As long as number plate recognition video cameras can read the correct Reg No then most will be fine. My B3EEE has been on cars for 6 years with no problem |

j Brighton will pull anyone driving a car. Definitely a hate/hate relationship between Brighton council and cars, and I bet RRS is top of their list. Robin 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 Gone: Jaguar S-Type V8 4.2 Sport MGZTT 190 2.5 |

I think it is more a case that with the reduced number of traffic police around you are unlikely to be caught but maybe APNR cameras can be utilised in their place - it amazes me some of the flagrant abuses of the number plate regulations that occur. I have a plate that reads something, but it does it without changing the spacing or shape of the characters 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

As an ex boy in blue, once the plate is on the car it is the decision of the police officer at the time whether any action is taken or a bit of advice is given....the DVLA have no role or say in the matter. ANPR will not flag up if the plate has illegal spacing, it will just read it and then search the records on PNC and DVLA for taxation. It should also be flagged up at MOT's but if you have a new car every three years then this is not an issue ![]() |
