While my Mini is in having a problem with charge measuring investigated and a software upgrade I have a 2018 Mini Cooper S 3 door hatch as a loaner............. the clock was still showing BST at 0830 UTC yesterday morning when I dropped my car off so not all Mini’s have automatic clock resetting for DST/ changes of time zone. The Cooper S might be a fun car it has unbearably hard suspension and the rear seats are a total waste of time/ space, there’s no way I could live with one as my daily driver. Fuel consumption is excellent though - 18 mile run home including 2 miles stop start town driving and the mpg is in the high 50’s from it’s 1.5ltr 3 cylinder turbo engine - still, doesn’t accelerate as well as my car which is heavier and has the same petrol engine but with an extra 85hp from the electric motor in the boot that drives the rear wheels. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

We rented a Mini Cooper in France last week and I wondered if it would automatically update the time on Sunday morning. It didn’t but I scrolled through the dash menu and found an option for automatic time setting (which was off). The car was great fun to drive but, as you say, not much room for luggage or people in the back! Current: 2020 P400e HSE Dynamic

It only needs GPS and some means of determining position/time-zone (err, GPS?) or pick it up from RDS (as my Saab used to do about 10 years ago).

My Freelander1 from 2001 could do it but it did have the then £1800 optional Philips satnav - I think I was about the only person who ever specced the factory system back then, I even had it removed from the car when I part-ex’dfor an L322 FFRR that had Satbav as standard fit in 2003 and it could also do the clock changes IIRC. The Parrott Asteroid system in my 1996 Defender also managed to do the clock change and I don’t have the Santa’s connected up in that, it uses the RDS instead. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

The Countryman is back in the service bay, this time for the completion of the previous software update that wouldn’t take to the car and for a new more serious problem - the portable charger unit that plugs into the 13amp socket has taken to tripping my garage circuit breakers............. and when I tried it in the house just to make sure, it blew the domestic sockets fuse for the house! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Oho. Lets not jump to any conclusions or comparisons with JLR yet. I am sure that even with this little glitch (!!??) it'll take a lot more than this to get to JLR's standards. Hope all ends up OK Tim. Robin

Hopefully I will know whether I have to collect the car soon or tomorrow. Tomorrow might be because the local buses don’t run to a timetable that suits the users........ 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Bus? At least I had a semi permanent loan car from LR! I did 1/3 as many miles in loan cars as my own. Never mind, driving is so much fun again now. Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

I didn’t want a loan car though, I have a perfectly good Defender 90 sitting on my drive to use and the 3 door hatch Cooper S I had as a loaner last time might have been a pocket rocket but it was incredibly uncomfortable and claustrophic. I would have liked to have had their John Cooper Works tricked up Countryman that was on the sales floor as a loaner though........ but it was t available 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Dealers phoned this afternoon 3pm to say that very sorry but they and Mini Technology simply cannot make the upgrade take to the car and after some investigation the files transferred to the dealer were found to be “corrupted” and they would like to keep the car for another day............. regarding the home charger unit “ it is dangerous to use so we have contacted BMW and Mini Tech for advice about what to do next” I was polite in my reply that as the car is only 5 months old and has only done 1850 miles I would have thought that the answer was obvious! So in the last month it has spent 8 days so far in the service bay because of a software update that won’t take. Not one of my Land Rover Products ever spent so many days off the road in a dealership it’s life - the Mini is fine to drive in petrol mode, it will self charge and can be plugged into a public charger and will charge, it just cannot be charged at home at the moment - oh and while it has this update problem I cannot heat the interior unless the car is plugged into the mains, not on the move - not so good these cold days although if it is really cold I can still revert to the heated seats for warmth! I still love the car but that is starting to wear off a bit 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
