Insurance Renewal

Just received my renewal letter in today from Hastings Direct. Last year it was £287.76 7 and for renewing it they are requesting £771.34. Wow I am so lucky. Moneysupermarket is quoting £300 upwards with the same level of cover.
Phoned Hastings to say they were having a laugh, so the lady said she would run it through as a new quote, not a renewal, £660 or thereabouts. The moral is always shop around every year as they rely on people just accepting whatever number they pluck out of the air. So Hasting is getting £0

NFU Mutual this year my premium dropped for my Defender90 to below £200 and I got a cheque for £35 back last week because they claimed that they had made a mistake when calculating my 2018/19 premium.......... Land Rover Insurance wanted more than £900 last year and removed the off road use allowance to boot, which was the only reason I remained with them previously (plus up to last year they were only taking £290pa off me then it jumped Up!) NFU chucked in offroad use for free as my postcode is also the farm at the end of the lane that my house is on! BUT my Countryman is insured with Land Rover Insurance as for that they were the cheapest I could find! It’s crazy how they work out premiums these days...... 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced

Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Lindab, doesn't surprise me, I was with Hastings for a few years and each year the renewal was ludicrously high. Each year I would Compare the Meerkat get a quote which was lower and the go through the process of phoning them etc etc until they matched the Meerkat quote.

when I bought my RRS I was able to get a Meerkat quote of just over £300, Hastings wanted an extra £258 Shocked Shocked Shocked on top of the current £400 for my Kuga (which was traded for the RRS).

Told them it wasn't good enough and cancelled, don't think I'll be going back to them again for a very long time if ever. RRS is now insured with Provident who were the cheapest Meerkat Quote.

The same happened to me, was with Hastings for one year after they drew me in with a very competitive quote, then the following year, the renewal was more than double. Can’t quite understand the logic behind doing this, did they hope I’ll just go, yeah, I’m happy to pay that. Rolling Eyes

Switched to A-plan, the forum sponsor. A cheaper price with lower excess, protected NCB and offroad cover for organized events. On renewal, the exact same price quoted as the first year with the exact same terms. So I renewed

No brainer Thumbs Up

Hi guys.... I heard a message on another forum that A-Plan were pulling out of the RRS market, like LV= have done recently.

Any clarification on this? Now

Its that time of year again, how time flies. Finally went with Saga for this year & just got their renewal in for next year £366.45.
Fired up old Money supermarket & looks like AA is the winner. There were a couple cheaper but their compulsory excess was £200 & AA was £100 for only a difference of £6 on the policy. £0 voluntary excess on them all. AA £270. Very Happy Bye Saga Big Cry

I've stayed with the AA again for a second year. Low total excess of £100, competitive price and better cover cover for a hire car if RRS is written off or stolen and not recovered (i.e. in events where body shop won't lend a car). There is no replacement for displacement - W O Bentley

I had prepared the ground with my favourite Meerkat in August to go with the AA for about £400. Just before I did, I got an email offering a 10% discount to AA members on insurance.
Looking forward to £40off I went to their site, filled in all the tedious details and was rewarded with a premium of nearly £800.

If they hadn't of been cheapest on the comparison site I would have kicked them well into touch, however I'm not one to cut my nose off to spite my face.

They do a similar thing every year at renewal of breakdown cover, which requires a phone call to restore my premium to that available on the net.

Same story every year, gets frustrating. RRS HSE Dynamic SDV6 2014

NFU

I was with SAGA, but my local NFU Mutual beat SAGA and the Meercat at £449, with protected NCD, legal and low excess. Very good service and they negotiate Thumbs Up

Incorrect - we still have options in place for RR's, a handful of insurers have stopped insuring but we use over 40 insurers so have policies available.

Thefts on these vehicle went up massively this year causing a few insurers to pull out of the market, and a general increase in premiums with insurers who had a lot of pay-outs in their risk profiles due to this. But no, we aren't pulling out of the market as A-Plan, we are still insuring them just with a couple of less insurer options.

Thanks
