Heated screen

Hi guys,

Not sure if an issue or not or a faulty windscreen but this morning, first time I have had frost on the car.
I put the heated front screen on and only the drivers side cleared. Passager side was frozen still.
Had a new screen fitted about 4 months ago.
Is it normal with only me in the car, screen faulty or something else?

Cheers

I can't see how it would be considered safe to only clear half of the screen, so I would suggest not a design feature.
Was the replacement screen a Pilkington or a Chinese (cheap) copy? If it's gen Pilkington then fitter error, if Chinese could be a faulty screen. Looking on here and Disco3, people have had issues with non Pilkington screens
I don't know if each side has a separate fuse, best check your handbook.
Other than it being a fuse, it's got to be down to the windscreen company to put right so give them a bell.

It is a fault, both sides should clear at the same time and speed. The passenger side failed on my last RRS after only 14 months so the screen was replaced under warranty, but you have a faulty screen so demand the installers have a look at it - it may be the connections but it could be a broken element. They are connected separately to reduce the load That one huge element would place on the battery/ alternator so it could be that the fitters are unaware that there are two sections to connect up.

As an aside - with my PHEV I specced the optional heated front screen - total waste of money! The cabin preconditioning heater that operates to keep the HV battery at optimal temperature heats the cabin beautifully as well as defrosting all the glass on the car so no need for park heating either, only problem is that the system only works when the car is plugged into the electrical supply/ charger...... not too much problem at home but if I had to leave the car in a car park say at a hotel without a charge point it would eat the battery charge available for EV driving Big Cry 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

It could be a faulty screen but you need to check a fusible link to that side before you do anything..

each side of the screen is on a separate fuse. Had one blow on mine (it's quite common apparently). Check the fuses.

I think the OP has a RRS2, can't even see fuses listed in any of the fuse boxes for it but must be there somewhere I imagine.

Cheers

Going by his recent posts he had, or has a 2015 RRS2.

Cheers

Funny, I had exactly the same this morning on my L320, drivers side fine, passenger side, zilch. I suspected a fuse as I can see the fine wires and it would be unusual for them all to blow. My old Focus lost a few elements over its 15 years but the good ones always compensated. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

Col, any ideas which fuse numbers these fuses are? I can’t find them in the book and what I found online appears to be L322. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

Engine bay fuse box, looking from front of car they are in a bank of six fuses located to the rear and slightly left, sort of pink square 30amp rated ones, fuse position 2 is right hand side and six is left hand side.

Cheers Col, sure enough the left side fuse was blown. I had to take the cover of the fuse it’s self to see that both legs had blown. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)
