Land Rover Free 7 Day Driveaway Insurance

Gents,

Had a phone call from my dealership today and was told as the “ insurance provider” has recently changed so when picking up my new Range Rover I cannot have the, as advertised on the Land Rover website, Free 7 Day Driveaway Insurance, as the vehicle is over £100,000.
So where it states on the website, with no caveat by the way, buy a new or Approved Range Rover from a Land Rover retailer and you will be eligible for Free 7 Day Driveaway Insurance is not true.......

What a load of Censored Censored

Ask them to deliver it on the back of a delivery vehicle. I am sure your 7 day insurance will be suddenly become valid

Problem I have is I’m getting the factory handover........

Furthermore there are currently 12 RRS on their Approved Used Website that are not covered by this Free Insurance.

Cancel the handover and ask for it to be delivered. They'll either do so or magically sort out your insurance. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

So,
After spending a while on tinterweb getting insurance quotes I thought I’d ring Land Rover Insurance for a 12 Month policy.

After going through all my details it came to value of the car and I was told, no, Land Rover cannot insure your vehicle.

The conversation went like this, I said “ so what you are telling me is that I’m purchasing a Land Rover from Land Rover direct and Land Rover insurance do not cover this vehicle “

The answer was “Yes”

The problem isn’t Land Rover, the problem is the Insurer that they have sold the LRI Franchise/ license to. Land Rover Finance no longer sells any form of insurance. A few years back they did, then they licenced the brand name to a subsidiary of Stratstone who provided almost the same cover as LR. The last time I insured with them the provider was Aviva or Zurich but last year when my Defender’s insurance leapt to >£900 “due to a quotation error” and I was re-quoted for a similar premium to the previous year but with no off-road use like I had had previously, I went to NFU Mutual and the premium dropped to <£300 including off-road use. Previously I had insured with LRI under it’s various guises for 16 years........... with not a single claim. I’ve just had a nice cheque and a letter of apology from NFU for mis-quoting too high a premium me for 2018-2019’s cover - £89 refund will put about 2 tanks of diesel into the 90 which will cover about 6bmonths mileage! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Insurance companies don't like RRS's, high risk of theft and high cost of repair in even a minor shunt (think of a front bumper with parking sensors and surround camera's together with your xenon lights). They will try to discourage us by quoting silly premiums or just refuse to insure them.
