Had an early oil service oil dilution incident.. covered for free by dealership (oil change is c £200 from what I heard).. looked a bit into the topic.. found this on a Total website:

"For this reason, it is crucial to use a properly formulated, high-quality engine oil capable of withstanding dilution by fuel "

So need to check that out, but also on their website https://www.lubricants.total.com/fuel-dilu...nd-effects

It highlights 'frequent stop/starts' as a key issue..... so i'm turning off my 'stop/start' function as the engine will interpret that as lots of little journeys...and that seems to be a much commented upon cause.. as does in-frequent long journeys, excessive acceleration and accelerating harshly before engine has time to warm up..

Nearly all the main manufacturer forums are talking about oil dilution fyi, and have been doing so for years.. P400e HSE Portofino Blue and Ivory Seats.. it's like a yacht!!

Press the button on the centre consul, but you have to do it at each start. I don't think that there is a permanent solution.

Just putting my 2pennys worth in working at an Indy my boss had a 2016 rrs and now has an 18 plate rrshe always turns the stop start off and we’ve always gone 12 months on the service with no early service warning, one thing I will say we do a service contract for a company with probably 30+ fiesta diesel vans and there always coming in for early oil changes due to oil dilutin so I don’t think the range rovers are as problematic as we think, working in an Indy the first cars with dpf’s where always coming in blocked etc now a days it seems more oil dilution is the problem I think the manufactures have gone more fuel injection early on to keep them clean at the cost of oil

Lots of good advice and common sense that will help us all manage this apparent 'problem' https://youtu.be/nMX94zarLs4

Cheers for this irbails Thumbs Up

Some very good charts on here.

I know it's possible on early cars removing the guts of the dpf and getting it welding tigged back up as I have done it on my Mrs car which is a 2011 Kia soul tempest which we have had from new and never had a issue yet.

But on the newer dpf's I think they measure if there is too much flow which will bring up a fault anyway Censored but my Mrs car has a sensor each side and never throws up any faults !

Just wondering if we removed the dpf's guts on our sports would this cause any faults ? If it doesn't it means it would never go into regen as it is never blocked this causing no oil dilution from the extra fuel which is required for a regen.
But not sure if this would effect the add blue further down the exhaust system with too much flow Rolling Eyes

Just to let you know the emmison levels on my Mrs car are clear on Mot's, but Mot's emmison tests are very vague anyway.

I think I maybe temped in time to try this on my 2016 Hybrid.

Anybody else done this yet or thinking of it ?

Hi Tyrefitter.

Yea I know these days they are getting stricter on tests. But if you get a coded welder to tig the dpf back up they wouldn't be able to tell it's so neat and better then factory Thumbs Up

I come from the offshore industry and know loads of people who weld so it's easy to get this done. I suppose it comes back down to the tester again which is the main thing !!

It's just getter harder to get through this Censored Engines today are so restricted and performance is killed off.

I always find the emmison results always seem cleaner once you remove all the egr, dpf's and brethers the engine can actually run to it's potential not breathing in all its own rubbish !!

Think we all need sports with flux capacitors to power them Mr. Green

The trail of black smoke out the exhaust will be the give away. Also the rear of your car will be dirty and grime laden all the time. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

What's the best way to get a sample of oil out for a lab test ? The dipstick tube (which doesn't have a dipstick !) is too narrow to fit a slim pipe down and I worry if I loosen the drain plug to get a sample the oil will likely get contaminated MY24 Dynamic SE,MY21 HSE Silver, MY20 SQ7, MY 18 RRS HSE Dynamic , MY 16 RRS Autobiography now gone & MY 2005 Discovery 3 HSE that I will be buried in !

You can buy oil extraction pump with a pipe that’s thin enough to got down the tube from eBay,this is what I use.Just make sure the oil is hot,it makes it easier to get out.
