Buying an early RRS SVR

Hi All

Looking to change my Panamera to an Early SVR, i.e 2015/2016.

I have to be honest the only gripe I'm having is that early infotainment system (where the buttons run 'up' each side of the screen) as opposed to the 2017 cars having the widescreen nav.

Owners with the earlier infotainment, how do you find it? is it that different to the widescreen nav?

It'll be a daily driver for atleast 15/20k a year so the entertainment is quite important.

Other than the typical LR quality issues, are there anything specifically to look for with the earlier SVRs? I welcome all comments!

thanks

irfan

If info-tainment systems are important then anything after 2016MY will have InControl Touch which was not great, was slow and clunky, but the early cars will have a more conventional system and well worth looking for one with the 1700w Premium Meridian surround sound system. The “basic” 825w system from Meridian was pretty good for the standard OEM kit but the optional system takes the infotainment to another level.
There have been few problems with SVR’s other than QC issues on new ones mentioned in the forum, you will be looking at a car that has recently fallen out of the factory warranty so if buying from a JLR dealership you will get 2 years used car warranty. Plenty of choice of SVR’s on the LR approved used website - unfortunately the caliber of some franchised dealerships is well below what you would expect from a premium brand but there are some excellent dealerships out there in the network if you can find one. The pre 2018MY cars it appears have a more raucous / less neighbour friendly exhaust sound than the post 2018 ones if that is also important! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

HI Tim

many thanks for your reply. ot be fair the one I have found is from a third party dealer and isn't a used approved car so that does concern me actually.

I believe it has the 825watt system. I did an insurance quote and it was £300 more expensive than my Panamera which isf ine, but on the subject that it has a tracker. I know my 2018 AB has the factory tracker which my insurers accepted, would the older 2015 system have said tracker though? otherwise I may have to go to a third party to get a tracker installed.

I think il have to venture out and actually have a play with one with one of these older systems, I have the 18 car with the new touch duo screens and I think having an older system will get on my nerves - but il reserve judgement!

It is fairly common for insurers to demand you have a tracker fitted before they can insure. Lots of RR vehicles gets stolen, so probably very high risk for some insurers.

Fitting one in my S/C got quote down to about £1200 per year as opposed to 3.5k most insurers quoted, and it only cost you £120 for the subscription a year.

InControl 'tracker' is Cat 6. Many insurers insist on Cat 5.

I've had a '15 plate for 2 years

My recommendation is that you try to buy via JLR and get the 2 year extended warranty.

A must, IMHO is the upgraded stereo - the 1700W. ITs just fantastic. Do not be tempted by the TV. its rubbish and you will only use it the once.

As for the info-system. Its just fine. simple menu system. A tiny bit slow to react to button presses. Never had an issue with screen size either. SVR with a few bits from Urban and Glohh

MY17 cars are around 80k mark from Dealer with 20k miles.

Not sure the MY15 with 40k miles is worth 68k to be honest and if you buy from Land Rover then you get 2 years warranty as mentioned already.

You can see what LR finance think a new one will be worth in 2/3/4 years time by looking at the GFMV on a PCP. About £55k for a 3 year old one with 30k miles. RRS MY17 SDV6 AB

That one might be of interest to me depending on the px price,I’ve just done a valuation & it’s less than I’ll take, those dealers are robbing bastards, they want more than top book for theirs & offer less than bottom for ours.

I ran an SVR for 8000 miles when they first came out and loved it - had no issues. I've got my next SVR on order now, although it doesn't have a LR badge Embarassed

Still got my RR15 SVR plate on retention though which considering putting on the Jag but it might look a bit odd! SOLD - 15 plate Estoril SVR

SOLD - 64 plate Aleutian Silver Supercharged

SOLD - 63 plate Corris SDV6 Autobiography
