2,7 black smoke on hard acceleration

Hi All new here.. please go easy Laughing

got myself a RRS 2.7 very cheap, due to it having an issue (egr valves had gone bad)
blanked them off, fix the issue
it's at 110k full land rover service history.

i'm going to check the intercooler pipes, are these a common failure point?

also whats the standard boost pressure, as it seems a tad bit nippy from what I've read on the 2.7.

any help/suggestions appreciated

Hi and welcome, the common pipe which splits on the 2.7 is the pipe that goes from the intercooler to the throttle body. The pipe closest to the air filter.
Is the car noisey does it sound like there’s a split pipe, would expect the performance to be down if you have a split pipe ! 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current

21 is fairly typical of mine round town, 2007 are prone to cambelt tensioner on oil pump shearing off if it hasn't had modified pump fitted, it's a must to get it checked or you'll be 1000's out of pocket for a new engine. Nanocom Evo

Hi dannyb13

I too have a 2.7 and the black smoke!

All of my hoses are OK. I had the car remapped and had the EGR removed. I've been told on this forum and face-to-face that provided there's no noise and no loss of power there's nothing to worry about.

It's not burning oil either.

I've had 2 big services and it's sailed through MOT's in the UK and most recently a vigorous MOT/road-test here in Portugal during the matriculation process.

It's probably not a pretty sight to see from behind but I'm confident there's nothing wrong with the car. Barrie.

Thanks BJH1959.

thats my thought, i think it may have been remapped.. it seems nippy compared to another 2.7 I've test driven i dont think its down on power.

is there any easy way to tell if its been mapped?

Thanks

I'm no expert but I'm fairly sure there is no "easy way to see if a car has been remapped". There are others on here with vastly more experience than me who may be able to give you a definitive answer. Barrie.

Hi,

There is a fix on the 3.0 tdv6 to replace the oil drain pipe from one or both (sorry not sure which) of the turbos. im not sure if this is a applicable to the 2.7 though,

Symptoms are:
Heavy black smoke under acceleration / load

if getting black smoke all the time then this could be worn turbos or worst case issue with the piston seals / cylinder head.

Further to my previous entries on this issue, I do find that when I use BP Ultimate diesel there is considerably less black smoke when under 'heavy' acceleration than when I use standard diesel. Barrie.

Hello Danny
I had issues with black smoke when I initially got my oil burner, one cheap thing to try first. Add a decent fuel cleaner and take it for a run.
I used Wynn's extreme clean 3, usually around £12 a bottle. Dumped the entire build up contents over an Audi, trying to get in my boot. It's been fine ever since. Also worth checking the correct oil has been used, some can produce excess soot. MY12 RRS HSE
