djb222, That looks like an interesting restoration on the Lotus Elan (S4?) hope you are going to give a step by step account of your progress. Back in the early 70's I had an Elan Sprint in the JPS colours, then a Europa twin cam in the same yellow as your Elan and I added genuine Minilite magnesium wheels Nothing could beat them for speed or road holding & contrary to the myths, mine were pretty reliable. Brings back happy memories The Europa was my favourite. A pal of mine had his twin cam engine tuned by Hugh Shannon who stayed in Perth.
It had gas flowed heads, high lift cams & re-jetted Webers. What a difference, left my Sprint for dead but was still tractable in traffic

The strip down started early spring with deciding to change the water pump and as you know that means "head off". A look at the head showed the exhaust valve guides were weeping so now a head rebuild, then I thought give the front of the car a refurb while the engine is out. SO what should have been an enjoyable Summer in the Lotus now means Summer 2019.

I would love a Europa that's the one I was mad about as a kid.

Thanks for that David, I will certainly check out your channel. I loved these cars in the days before cameras & speed guns. You only got stopped if the police were behind you & they were usually very far behind you On the rare occasions I was stopped they were more interested in the cars than giving a ticket. One time I gave the traffic cop a run in the Europa while his partner tried to keep up in the traffic car. Without success Happy days
