What annoys me most, is that the government made manufacturers meet stringent emission targets, which they did in order to offer cheaper vehicle excise duty, (road tax) or whatever they want to call it these days, but now the government see that they are now losing out on so much revenue, they have come up with stinging everyone that pays more than 40k for a new vehicle by charging them £340 ish on top of the £140 they should be charging them for road tax per year for the first 5 years. Evil or Very Mad And then at year 6 it is reduced back to what it should be £140 per year. And this government say they want a fairer Britain. Wtf.... But now manufacturers are all complaining that sales have tumbled for prestige vehicles. It serves the feckers right for not doing anything about this tax increase when they had chance to. The dealers i spoke to prior to the incrrase were all complacent and said it won't effect sales. How wrong were they. I know it not just prestige cars that are effected. Anything over 40k.
Moan over. Crack on. Laughing

Plus 10% tax on insurance premiums, not to mention petrol.

Earn a quid and you can write-off 40p in income tax, etc., leaving 60p. Buy 60p worth of petrol and about 57p of that is tax. Out of the original quid, HMRC have got 97p and the garage 3p (on which they are subsequently taxed) and you are left with an egg-cup full of petrol.

I work hard and on the face of it get a good rate. Reality is that I earn Censored-all. Still, I don't mind paying the tax - after all, our roads, railways, hospitals, etc., could not be better. Rolling Eyes

Buy your fuel in the UK then. In the UK, fuel duty is 57.95p/litre or about 58p in £1.30 worth of fuel. Got to add VAT, of course, but it's still better than the tax you're paying... Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
