Sorry bit late to the party here but I don’t buy that they are having issues more likely the dealer has messed up the order or they have a slot for one that’s not got a contrast roof they are trying to sell.

To paint the contrast roof they paint the full car black then mask paint the rest of the car again.

If the dealer has ordered your car wrong don’t settle for it make them order you a new one and give you one in the mean time.

RRS sold and replaced with a Skoda Kodiaq after appalling RR Dealer experience and LR inability to supply new cars in any sort of reasonable time frame..

There was a few reasons (they went though it in detail on the factory tour) but the only one I can remember was it was more efficient for production to set up the line to paint full cars pull them off then send them though again than it was to have alternative methods.

I see, so how do they mask off the roof before re-sending through the paint process. Always curious as to how production lines work and why.

Sadly didn’t ask that question, I was on a VIP tour to see my car get built so was thinking about that.

I wonder if they have a piece that first over the roof and just gets taped round the edge? Possibly easier than masking the full car? I am in regular contact with the factory for my replacement vehicle so will try and ask the question.

I think all autobiography spec cars come with a contrast roof as standard can’t imagine they would not be making those at the moment?

IiRC it takes 1 hour more to paint with the contrasting roof 

Paint the whole car black... Thats ok for mine then.. SVR 2018 in Santorini Black.

We are still in discussions about it. My choices are reorder, or try and get some money knocked off plus a few bits thrown in for free (service pack and VIP factory tour). Still waiting for their best offer.

Press them for a full day Land Rover Experience as well as the other bits and pieces you ask for, it is quite an expensive day out when we, the paying punters, want to buy one - I’m sure dealers get them for far less when they book them or give you a voucher. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
