Friday Main Dealer Rant!

I have owned my RRS for nearly 12 months now so it is time for a service and MOT. I also have two faults with the parking sensors and TV module which need investigating.

Contacted Marshall Land Rover Cambridge on 8th May asking to book the car in for the above. Their response was no service slots available for the next 4 weeks, no loan cars available and can't collect or drop off the car. Explained that the MOT will run out in 3 weeks but no offer of help. Mad

Tried to ring the service department at Lancaster Land Rover Milton Keynes over 2 days on 6 occasions and no answer! Finally contacted them by on-line chat 2 days ago and was told that someone from the service department will ring me straight back. Still waiting after 2 days! Mad

Contacted Guy Salmon Northampton and told that they have no service slots for "at least 4 weeks" and no loan cars available! Mad

Concerned that my Land Rover 2 year used vehicle warranty may be invalidated if I do not get the car serviced at the 12 month point I contacted Land Rover Customer Service. That was 3 days ago and still waiting for a response. Mad

Land Rover seem to have lost their CUSTOMER SERVICE ethos; or did they ever have it to lose?

Finally, I noticed in my engine bay a FREE MOT FOR LIFE sticker from Guy Salmond who originally supplied the vehicle when new. It also states that this offer remains in effect for subsequent owners of the vehicle. I checked the terms and conditions on their website and found that I qualified for a free MOT. I contacted Guy Salmon and they said no, it is only for the original owner. I referred them to the wording of the sticker and their own terms and conditions to the offer, they said that they would check and call me back. Yes, you guessed it, that was 2 days ago and still waiting!

Can anyone recommend a Land Rover independent garage in the Cambridge/Norfolk/Suffolk area? I am done with Land Rover Main Agents. Mad

Time for a stiff drink I think Thumbs Up

To be honest you will probably get a better and more conscientious service from an independent. I hate all main dealers of all makes. I’ve had BMW technicians hide damage from me and Ford fitters who try and talk down to me, they’re all as bad as each other. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

I have owned 2 Sports that came with free MOT for life deals - both was honoured when needed by Guy Salmon Coventry & that's where the good news ends Evil or Very Mad
I looked on Topix the other day to confirm the next service date for my current RRS - it had been serviced on the 18/4/18 by LR Stafford - OH NO IT WAS NOT & so the pantomime began Big Cry. Numerous phone calls & contact made but still no resolution. I have asked why the vehicle serviced used my VIN number & maybe a call to the Feds is needed. I believe the servicing technician did not check the VIN & went by the Reg which happens to be the one on my RRS before I owned it Rolling with laughter
I believe it's a simple human error but if I can't get it sorted by next Wed I will be escalating the Censored up as far as I can including the police.
All in all - in my 8 years of ownership I can honestly say I have nothing good to say about my dealings with any main dealer - Except Dan @ Duckworths Bow down 16MY Estoril Blue SVR.............
17MY Autobiography Dynamic - Corris Grey - WOW.
14MY Autobiography Dynamic - SDV6 - Fuji White Smile
12MY Autobiography - SDV6 - Santorini Black - Dual View - Rear Entertainment - Sunroof.
12MY Autobiography - SDV6 - Orkney Grey - awesome ;(
2005 Java Black - 4.2 V8 Supercharged First Edition- will never be forgotten ;(

Book the service online. Coventry have dates available at the end of the month (first week in June with a courtesy car). Cambridge have dates at the start of June (6th with a courtesy car). RRS MY17 SDV6 AB

Why give your money to these idiots, you wouldn't take in any other form of transaction. Find an indie and spend less for more service. 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.

Try your local council for MOTs. Many have their own MOT bays for their own vehicles and do MOTs for members of the public too. You have the benefit that they don't do servicing work so they're not looking for things to fail in order to fix them. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Thanks syl for your reply. I had no idea that you could book a service online Thumbs Up It also cuts-out the pain of trying to get through to the service desk and then speaking to someone who seems to have no idea about customer service Evil or Very Mad

Thanks also for all the replies and advice to my post Bow down Due to various issues with getting the service and MOT done before 30th May I have booked the car into Guy Salmon Land Rover at Coventry, a 170 mile round trip for me! Let's hope the service is worth it.

In future I will search out a local independent LR specialist for my next service and look into getting the MOT done at a Local Authority depot as suggested.

Thanks again everyone Thumbs Up

I must admit I'm not sure why you are complaining when you are trying to book a service/MOT with not much notice, it's not the dealers fault you didn't book early enough. Most dealers of any make of car are booked 4 weeks in advance especially March-May when the majority of new cars are registered. Next year book 4-5 weeks in advance problem solved Thumbs Up 2019 BMW X3 2.0i M Sport in metalic black- Brilliant

I usually book with my indy a couple of weeks in advance because I want a loan car. If I didn't want a car, I could usually book within the next 7 days.

One benefit of using an indy is that they don't spend half of their workshop time fixing warranty issues like the main dealers do. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

We must be doing something wrong up here, i’ve never had to book more than 10 days in advance with the local main dealer and with my 90 the indie has been able to take the car the next day, problem has been to get home from them as they are a bit off the beaten track/ bus routes at Killin. Only issue can be getting a loan car from the main dealer but they do offer a pick up and return service as they are 14 miles away in the nearest town. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Hi Mike21,

I think that there are two issues regarding my recent experiences with contacting several Land Rover main dealer service departments.

1. I have owned numerous quality cars over the years and have never had to book more than 2 weeks in advance for a service, even if I needed a loan car. When I had a non-urgent fault on my RRS, Marshalls Cambridge were able to offer me a 'slot' within 5 days. It is certainly a lesson learnt for me and I will book my next service 6 weeks in advance, but based on my first experience of arranging a service with Land Rover Main Dealers, I am inclined to use an Independent Specialist for my next service and avoid Main Dealers from now on!

2. The second more disturbing issue is the apparent total lack of customer service from Land Rover service departments, giving wrong information, saying that someone will ring me back and they don't, me ringing the service department 6 times over 2 days with no answer etc, etc. Land Rover may have the brand motto "Above and Beyond" but I would suggest that their service departments are not living up to their motto or customer expectations.

It does seem that more and more people are getting frustrated by poor customer service which is painfully substandard for such a top end product, a lot of loyal customers are jumping ship to other marques purely because of this 2019 BMW X3 2.0i M Sport in metalic black- Brilliant

The problem is car makers are like insurance companies......... they don’t want loyal customers who come back time after time, they can only see conquest sales from other companies. The insurers are learning (albeit very slowly) that they need to look after return customers otherwise as announced thus week in the Insurance world, the government will step in and force them to do better for loyal / returning customers. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
