2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey
Car in for 3rd service........

car Went into dealers 0800 yesterday, just had a call at 4:30pm Wednesday - “sir your brakes are binding and the fluid needs to be changed we cannot complete it today. It’s £830 to repair the brakes........” sharp, intake of breath and I explain that” since Janauary 16 the car has only driven from my house to their dealership, 16 miles as it doesn’t have a valid MOT so I expect that once driven for a bit more the brakes will be fine so don’t touch them and i’m sure the fluid is part of the 3rd service..... and the car has a service agreement” “oh you have the service agreement?” Brakes binding of course is not covered but as the car goes as a part exchange in 6 weeks time......... i’ll Let the JLR franchise within the group that the Mini dealership is part of short that out at their cost when they carry out the multi point check that are are going to put it through before it becomes an approved used Land Rover.......... would it be odd to carry out the MOT then do the service and find a brakes problem and not find that at the MOT?
The dealership changed from being a family owned franchise with one outlet to being taken over on 1st January 2018 and reading the feedback on their website it would appear that service has fallen through the floor with the change of ownership to being part of a very large group.......... profiteering too? 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Perhaps not well known, and probably doesn’t apply to you Tim...

But did you know that the extended warranty can be used at any VAT registered garage? I for one would prefer a Garage like Strathearn in Aberuthven as opposed to many a main dealer.

I’m having a new diff installed by a main dealer. It might be done better and diedintely cheaper by a specialist. 2022 P440e AB

Bunch of sharks !! Shocked

Well, main dealer servicing consists mostly of driving the car in, washing it, and parking it outside again.

Were the binding brakes just a case of rusty discs, or was it their failure to clean and grease the pad slides last time they serviced it?

Not sceptical at all, you see.

I still have 2 years to go on the service agreement and the car is now out of warranty but I agree about the indies as I take my Defender all the way to Killin for its annual going over and MOT - this year they will also get the cam/timing belt to do - third change in my ownership, comes up every 7 years on the TDi300 motor as I never get the mileage up in between. I dread to think what a main dealer would charge for that, or how long that they would want the car for. The garage was very disappointed when I told them this morning that I was selling the car and not replacing it with another Land Rover product or a Jaguar one - when they were a family run business I bought my first 6 Land Rover vehicles from them and have mostly used them for services too as they were great (especially for services) and took good care of the car and pride in the job. They are now part of the Pentland brand aka John Clark Group and I noticed this morning that very few of the staff who were with them when they were family owned are still there - at least out of those who face the public. At least they didn’t become swallowed up by the Arnold Clark empire.......... 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

The brakes will be fine, they just need bedding in as it will be surface rust on the discs,,when I took my14 AB sdv6 into LR for its 30000 mile 3 year service they said the brake fluid was contaminated,,i brought it home & checked it with the tool I have & it was fine, brake fluid lasts for years.

It is well known, I look after many customers with cars under manufacturers warranty, as well as informing them of any warranty issues that should be dealt with FOC by the dealers Thumbs Up

Some people just prefer a main dealer service for the manufacturers warranty period, as well as those sold with a service plan, as in Tim's case
