Ordering problems?

Hi, I'm new to posting on the forum but have been reading it for a while.

I've been talking to a leasing company about taking out a personal lease on a new RRS 3.0d HSE. They're telling me that JLR have put a stop on any new orders ahead of a price increase in September and therefore although I have had quotes from other lease companies (including my local dealer), this company says they won't be honoured due to the order freeze.

However they have found me a car that's similar to what I asked them to quote on which is apparently available now, or soon, so I suspect they're telling porkies about the ordering issue and just wanting me to sign up for this car. My suspicions are increased by their unwillingness to send a written quote with the details, but to send an order form instead.

Has anyone else heard anything similar to this or do you think I'm right to suspect I'm being pressured into a contract.

I'd take a trip to my local Land Rover dealer and ask them rather than rely on finance company information.

I have spoken to two of them, one of whom also provided a lease quote (not at all competitive to be honest!!). Both mentioned lead times of a few months but nothing at all about an order freeze or the fact that their quote wouldn’t be honoured. They didn’t have their order allocations yet but that seemed plausible.

Land Rover are laying off staff due to shortages of orders while turning away orders due to a price increase due in September? Something smells fishy. Merc C220 estate Sport AMG

Mmm, I agree. That’s why I asked the question. Plus a price increase in Sept is over 4 months away, which is longer than either dealer indicated would be the lead time. The initial non-bespoke quote from the lease co was also about £1k cheaper over 3 years than anyone else, so if it looks too good to be true....

Happy to be corrected but if there was ‘any’ truth in a freeze due to price increase that’s ‘4 months away’ and at same time they are laying off staff becuase of lack of orders ... something tells me they need to shoot the owner of their business model 😉

It sounds fishy to me but at same time many people have been messed around by LR direct in promising delivery windows they can’t honor. So who knows but I would trust a LR dealership more then a finance company ...

I suspect the leasing company is in cahoots with a dealer who has unwanted stock that they are offering the leasing company a big discount on to take off their hands............ you might be able to get that discount going direct to the LR dealer if you find out who the lease company uses. Today I took my car in for it’s 3rd service and 1st MOT and was wandering in the used car area at the dealership - how’s this for desperation to sell an unwanted car......... 3 months old, 500mile (yes 500 miles not as typo) Jaguar XJ 3.0D R Sport - reduced from £74000 to £49000............... I knew XJ’s were unloved (but an excellent car) but not THAT seriously unloved! Loads of Jaguars on the lot with low miles - some less than 100 miles on the odo and mega huge discounts, especially F types and XE’s. Also I counted 11 Velars on the lot all with less than 1000 miles on them and 30% + discounts on the new price. There must be a lot of ex management Velars in the system.... 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Massive discounts,I'm told, on BMWs sitting around waiting to be sold. A friend has been offered a few months old 430 cabriolet by a dealer at £16k under list. The whole car market is a disaster at the moment, unless you're buying! until the diesel issue is clarified and the real world figures are announced for September I reckon the market will continue to stagnate. On top of this we probably have a PCP bubble about to burst where large numbers of cars will not be worth their estimated future value. This will lead to finance companies dumping them wherever possible. Perhaps LR are pre-empting this by trying to shift stock with big discounts and are reducing production.
Sorry to be such a pessimist.

A slump in used values is good for those of us that buy second hand, although, of course it means fewer second hand cars in the future as the market contracts.

The thought of one of the Velars Tim mentioned at 30% off the price is quite tempting, albeit briefly. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

30% discount on the Velar Rolling with laughter

I think Tim is playing them down as he really does want one Mr. Green

Car wow only show 5% on a Velar at the moment and I know a few who got 10% too but 30% seems a bit OTT.

These are not “new” cars they are all “used” with 1000 miles approx on the clock - pre-registered / ex management car I assume.

I watched the last episode of the last series of TG last night, impressive performance by the 2.0lt SD4, might have fared better had Rory what’isname hadn’t done a James May and got lost, but where it mattered it performed well against the XC60 ( that broke twice during the test) and the Alfa Stelvio. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I might have considered a hybrid Velar, but as you know I like to use my Land Rovers properly and not as a school bus/ supermarket van, but off-road, and the lack of a low ratio gearbox and full on Terrain Response means it wouldn’t fulfill my requirements of a Land Rover vehicle so I have gone for a car with no off-road pretensions whatsoever and will make sure that I suffer in silence using my Defender 100% for off-roading..........

As I am 12 months from retirement I also don’t want to be borrowing loadsa money to pay for a new Land Rover vehicle and all their problems. I can buy the Mini with savings, have money left in the bank and have no knock-on for the days next year when I will probably have to make every penny of pension stretch a long way thanks to greedy fund managers and trustees who claimed I would have a pension worth 85% of my final salary (around £55000 pa of pension was projected in 1981) but now i’ll Be lucky to see £13000pa in defined benefits ....... and that is an industry pension not a private one as the trustees were more interested in closing the fund than making it work! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I was in Land Rover yesterday and they halting production but it’s due to September models having new emissions so they can’t build anymore cars that aren’t registered before the end of August.
