Back on topic & for all the BMW lovers on this forum .......

"In the Grand Cherokee SRT-8 , peak power arrives at 6,000rpm and the 420lb/ft of torque presents itself for inspection at 4,800rpm. Thats comfortably more than a BMW M5, in case you were wondering."

Or..............

"The centre-mounted dual exhausts would look more at home sprouting out of a Lamborghini Murcielago and the sound the Jeep makes when at tickover is not dissimilar a truculent, bass tone that will frighten small children. " Laughing

The Trade Off .............

"Show this Jeep a wet grassy slope and itll likely be spinning its wheels impotently. Itll sound great doing it though" Laughing

BUT Sad

"There's little body roll and the massive amount of torque from that V8 enables you to slingshot your way out of slow corners with, for an SUV, the acceleration is pretty close to qualifying for the over-used adjective of "breathtaking". Not only that, but it will corner at speed that would see a Range Rover Sport making a one-way trip into the scenery.!!! Sad

However.........

"Jeep openly admits that this SRT model is not designed to go off-road! That may be a laughable concept in a £40k 4x4 perhaps but certainly not for those who spend any time towing horseboxes and the like. The SRT-8's lowered ride and low-profile tyres are likely to make it about as useful off-road as a Reliant Robin" Laughing Laughing Laughing

To sum up............

Compared to its direct, equally pointless, rivals, the SRT-8 almost makes sense. Despite the colossal thirst and high running costs, it matches the performance and road presence of its Porsche and Land Rover rivals, while costing far less. We're far from certain that the world really needs a 150 mph SUV, but by God the SRT-8 is fun. The only thing that's missing is a switch to turn off your conscience.

We like:
1) Massive performance
2) Good handling for something like this
3) Far cheaper than obvious rivals.

We're not mad on:
1) Massive thirst
2) Lack of off-road ability
3) Not as dynamically sharp as Cayenne.

Specs:
Engine: 6063 cc 32 valve V8, petrol.
Power: 420 bhp at n/a rpm
Torque: 310 lb/ft at n/a rpm
Performance: 0-62 mph 5.0 seconds, 150 mph top speed
Fuel economy: 17.2 mpg combined.
CO2 emissions: 388 g/km
