Tdv8 EGR VALVE QUESTION

Hi , back in November the Engine management light came on , had the codes read and came up with EGR valve problem , at this point I had a word with my Indy and he suggested a fuel additive to see if it may help to clear / clean the valves though he said it would most likely be a case of replacing both valves . So i added FORTE DIESEL TREATMENT, after a couple of days the light went out , car was running fine as it was with the EML on , but about 4 weeks later it came on again so I added another bottle of FORTE (£15 a bottle ) and this time the light went out and car ran fine for 8weeks !! Great I thought . But then 2 weeks ago it came on again but this time 2 bottles later the light stays on (codes read EGR ) so it's time to get it sorted . Question I have is on the tdv8 how much should I expect to pay for both EGR valves to be replaced . Land Rover quoted nearly £800 just for the valves alone if I was going to purchase the valves from them !! I intend to have the work done by my local independent but would be grateful to hear from any other tdv8 owners who have had EGR replaced . Thanks

IIRC, the valves are £220-ish + VAT each, and 4 hours labour

I’d expect to be paying £800 inc Labour

I'm sure you've already looked but found this on Rimmer Bros https://rimmerbros.com/SubCategory--Range-...s--m-17800

...and this on site sponsor Advanced Factors https://www.advancedfactors.co.uk/exhaust-...1734-c.asp

So LR part numbers are: LR018321 (AF = £253, Rimmer = £285) & LR018322 (AF = £253, Rimmer = £263). Rimmer state that these are genuine LR parts. Not sure about AF

Not had mine done - yet. How many miles has your RRS done? I'm on 75000 miles. Robin

My TDV8's EGRs lasted 170k miles and were only changed because they were removed to do something else on the engine. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

That sounds like bloody good reliability (didn't think I'd say that about a LR product Rolling with laughter ).

Hope mine last as long Thumbs Up Robin

Had to replace one of mine at the 92k mark,, this was about 2 years ago, cost £380 + vat using genuine parts with 2 year guarantee. Shot myself in the foot really as I Shouldham done both at the same time as the other failed a few months later, I would have probably saved myself a couple of quid. 2010 RRS, TDV8

heated everything, TV,fridge ...... now with gold calipers and mud flaps !( black mud flaps that is) !!

Did both mine two years ago around 90K miles only one was sticking but decided it was better to replace both while I was in there

Got them from Island 4x4 https://www.island-4x4.co.uk/valve-tdv8-va...28224.html £175 inc vat per side plus another £12 for the gaskets each side

Followed a workshop guide that was posted on here and did them in an afternoon on the driveway Thumbs Up TDV8 now with extra grin factor thanks to Alive Tunning: Gone but not forgotten

My tdv8 has just done 102k miles so I guess that's fairly good . The VALEO egr priced @£149 appears to be the cheapest I've come across and I've been informed that they are the same that are supplied to Landrover ? What I don't understand is that although I've got the EML on and the codes read EGR fault the car still drives brilliantly!!! ? Good acceleration smooth running ! Any thoughts?

Another question . Buying the cheapest VALEO , as appose to any of the more expensive , which would be the best to buy ? And why are some egr valves nearly twice the price of the VALEO ones ?

I know genuine LR parts have a 2 year guarantee which gives some peace of mind, what kind of guarantee do you get with the cheaper option. I'm also a believer in " you only get what you pay for",, most of the time! 2010 RRS, TDV8

Well my Valeo are more than two years old now so even if they were LR genuine the warranty would have expired

Remember you need to add vat and the two gaskets to that price to get full cost per side

When my egr was playing up it would stick open if I gave it full throttle and engine light would come on.
Stop and restart would clear it TDV8 now with extra grin factor thanks to Alive Tunning: Gone but not forgotten
