Came across this discussion where an Insurer refused to insure a car with painted wheels, claiming it to be an unnotified modification. The Insurer apparently refused to reinstate the policy even if the policy holder returned the car to standard...

Problem is nowadays, you have to declare absolutely everything with most insurers...even things like club stickers. I even had my bespoke gearknob listed when I had my Focus ST. Steve. |

Its getting to the point that if you replace a blown bulb with an identically rated one but from a different manufacturer, then the insurance company will call that a modification. And if you fit it yourself then it will need an engineers report before it can be passed OK. I'd laugh if it wasn't such b****cks Robin

I read the first page and found it interesting that they would classify refurbed wheels as modified. My old Focus was repaired by an insurance approved repairer with new paint, by their standard the car had now been modified. If that was the case I would refuse to accept it. What a joke. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

I think if any any insurance provider tried to reject a claim based on something as insignificant as painted wheels, they'd be laughed out of court. They would have do demonstrate that it was a significant factor in causing an accident. And I would also think that trading standards would have something to say if they tried to increase premiums because of it.
