Hi,
I get steering wheel wobble when driving on the motorway, from about 60mph up to over 70mph. I took it to Range Rover dealer who said they checked the tracking and was all ok. I took it to a Bosch garage, they said it would be the balancing and they balanced all wheels. This reduced the steering wheel wobble, but didn't solve it altogether. It has been getting worse so I took it to a specialist tracking garage today. He said it wasn't the tracking, and he balanced the wheels again. But there is still a steering wheel wobble.
So 3 specialists and still I am unhappy with it. It has good tyres on it, they were on the car when I bought it from the LR dealer and were brand new. They are Gremax Capturer tyres. Any suggestions?

It could be that one of the drive flanges on the front isn't running true, have you recently had a wheel bearing changed in the front ?

May be a bad tyre do you know someone with a spare set of wheels and tyres you could borrow

No, no work done on it since purchase and had a full service in August.

It's a 2012 model.

It could be the tyres, but it would have done it right from the start (unless a band in the tyre has failed).

Get a garage (or do it yourself) to put a dial gauge on the hub and check for run out.

As a third option, and equally possible, it could be the alloy is worn where it sits on the hub. If the wheel wasn't tight enough it could have had some play allowing the wheel to rub itself out of true on the hub, that one is a little harder to check for, but if you move the front wheels to the back and the vibration changes, then you have your answer.

Thanks. Actually, it has had the steering wheel wobble since I purchased it last year. I thought it wasn't right which is why I took it back to them but they assured me there was nothing wrong and the tracking was fine.

Cheapest possible tyres are never a good option.

Check the tyres are rated according to the Land Rover specifications (106Y) if they don't meet that rating then take the car back to the dealer and insist on the tyres being replaced at their cost as not fit for purpose.

There may well be another problem with suspension or steering components as well but best to get shot of those tyres regardless.

I think they are 107V, they don't have any rating on the tyres themselves.

I had this on my first new RRS in 2008.

Honestly, this can be really tiresome to fix and you have to be very methodical to eliminate individual possible causes before moving on to the next one. You have checked the obvious and easy things, now the next level. Possible causes are:

Tyres - get rid of the cheap ones anyway

Wheels - make sure you don’t have any damage or a buckle, aftermarket wheels are a no no on a 2.5 ton car in my experience. You need to swap with another set to check if the problem persists.

Front discs - quite a common cause is warped discs, replacement is really needed to fix the issue.

Try the above things, if not then there are potentially some bigger items to check, suspension, diffs and steering rack.

Are all 4 tyres the same brand and type? I have a slight wobble on my 12MY and I'm convinced its the odd tyre I have fitted. I'm going to replace it when I get chance. 2019 5.0 SC SVA (Current)

Are they the correct wheels for the car, ie are they what would have been fitted at the factory at the time of manufacture or are they off of the later new Sport. I recall vibration issues when people started bolting on L322 wheel onto their P38 & Disco 2 cars. The hub spigot hole in the L322 wheel is slightly larger than the spigot on the axle causing the wheel to not be mounted centrally on the axle causing a vibration.

The tires may have flat spots or are not round within specs. sometimes it helps to give them a quart or half turn on the rim. RRS 3.0 SDV6 HSE Lux
