I had a MY16 hse for 9 months and initially thought it was great but the list of niggles and reading others issues I made it my last LR and got shut
Forums are full of unhappy owners especially due to B pillar defect, oil dilution and failed engines plus numerous squeaks and rattles - opinion appears to suggest premium prices and penny pinching quality
On paper they look impressive though
Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW
I had a 2015 DS for 2 years and had no issues. I made the change to my RRS because I felt the DS rather utilitarian in feel than luxurious. Yes the DS will do most that the RRS can but not with the same style.

RRS sold and replaced with a Skoda Kodiaq after appalling RR Dealer experience and LR inability to supply new cars in any sort of reasonable time frame..
There is a guy (think he's Army) on the Porsche 911 forum who bought a new Disco Sport for his Mrs - he started a thread especially to rant about how c*ap is was in every way; ran to many pages - he really hated the thing (and the dealership). Can't post a link as I think it was in a member's only sub-forum.
A friend of mine has just had a new engine fitted at 16000 miles,,it only went in for a service & came out with the new engine,,they gave him a new RRS sport as a loaner & he loved it but it was too big for his wife or he would be driving one round now,,,,or should I say if he had got a new RRS it would be back in the dealers for electrical issues

I had one as a loaner once, was the ingenium engine and never again. I hated it and it wasn’t even mine and I couldn’t wait for it to be returned
2 x the above for me too. On a very short test drive in busy traffic when I was considering one, I didn't think it was too bad. It was only when I had them as courtesy cars a couple of times and used them like my own car, I realised how much I disliked the thing and what a big mistake it would have been to go for it.
Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top
Gone: MY16 RRS2 3.0 SDV6 Autobiography Dynamic, Carpathian Grey & Santorini Black Sliding Pano/Ebony & Ivory 2 Tone
Gone: MY13 RRS 3.0 SDV6 HSE Black Edition, Orkney Grey/Ivory
Gone: MY09 RRS 2.7 TDV6 HSE, Santorini Black/Almond
I had a DS as a service loaner recently. It was the older engine, I think, and I thought the vehicle was pretty good really. Certainly nicer inside than the Freelander2. I wouldn't want one in place of the RRS but if someone wanted a competent 4x4-lite then I wouldn't tell them to ignore it.
Seeing so many on the roads, the DS must be doing something right.
2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
I looked at tge discovery sport and thought it was bland and the dashboard minimalist boring.
Went for XC60 instead and boy I was so right, such a beauty of a car with no issues in three years ownership
Just bought a RRS 06 MY HSE TDV6 136,000 miles, to be a second car to my bland, boring Mitsubishi Outlander 68 plate 2.0 petrol 4
I've had one, chopped it in for a Lexus RX last month
For anyone who's serious make sure you understand all of the potential issues with them by reading the DS forum.
I agree it's no RRS but guys, don't forget that it is no where near RRS pricing. For £30k less than the RRS spec for spec why would you expect it to have RRS quality?
