And nearly as exciting as listening to Birmingham City v Huddersfield Town in the FA Cup 4th Round Replay on the radio. Watching the launch made listening to the game just that little bit more bearable!

More likely a space ship flying past gets clobbered by an ancient piece of waste travelling at 50000 mph!

Any news on the core rocket yet? If it failed landing, SpaceX have managed to keep it very quiet for two hours. Question

All indications are that it has endured a high speed interface with the barge following a less than effective use of the engines in the closing stages of the descent. Neither is now in anything close to optimal condition. Or words to that effect.

It's an ex- centre core. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Yes - crashed into the sea at 400kph - 100m from the barge.

With the ability of the boosters to land back on the ground is obviously geared for future use on bodies where there is no atmosphere like the moon. Afterall to have to lug all that extra fuel to land back on the earth is a waste and reduces payload as parachutes can be used to return them - not much use if landing on the moon but if for Mars parachutes would be for effective.

The 'Don't Panic"' is a nice touch.

Look what happens when a government doesn't get involved.

The first stage boosters are never intended to go further than the edge of Earth's atmosphere. Their job is purely to help get out of Earth's gravity well. If they are taking a less than heavy payload then they can use the landing feature. If they want to use the maximum payload of 60tonnes then the boosters will be disposed of in the usual way. This is because they need all of the fuel for the extra payload. They could, for example, use a new booster for a lightweight mission, land it and then reuse it for a heavy mission where it is then abandoned. It definitely cuts the cost of getting stuff to LEO. Thumbs Up

Having said all of that, it is a nice proof of concept for an auto land system for the upper stage / payload in future missions. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I heard somewhere that his ultimate goal is to mine for minerals in space and then move all heavy industry to Mars so that our planet becomes pristine and free from pollution.
Quite a visionary!! 2016 RRS SVR Estoril Blue
2005 4.2L Supercharged Java Black - gone but was my first love.

If we all point our RR's in the same direction and accelerate at the same time can we turn back time?

I'd prefer one of Douglas Adams' goals. The one where the human race moved to another planet - "the idea was that into the first ship, the 'A' ship, would go all the brilliant leaders, the scientists, the great artists, you know, all the achievers; and into the third, or 'C' ship, would go all the people who did the actual work, who made things and did things

Ship 'B' that was loaded with all the Hairdressers, TV producers, insurance salesmen, personnel officers, security guards, public relations executives, management consultants, Estate Agents .... they all got sent to a different planet 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

"Don't Panic!" is a start in that direction.

Life? Don't talk to me about life. Here I am, brain the size of a planet and what do they get me to do? Drive a second-hand car to Mars. I've already got some terrible pain in the diodes down my left side. And I prefer Bowie's earlier work.
