Oil patch on drive

Recently, I noticed my 2005 RRS was dropping oil on my drive. A quick look underneath revealed a clearish oily fluid was dripping down from the rear diff. I assumed it was a diff leak and decided to leave it until the weather warms up.

Roll on a couple of weeks and I get a yellow warning light on the dash under the temp gauge. I stopped and checked the coolant level, this was fine. Then I remembered the oil patch and checked the brake fluid reservoir, this was down quite a bit. Brake pedal felt fine so I topped it up and took the car to my local garage.

The brake line that runs across the top of the rear axle had corroded and split and was leaking brake fluid.

Moral of the story, if you have an early RRS get this pipe checked out, apparently its becoming quite common now.

I’d have thought most of them would have been replaced by now. I have done pipes on 3/4 year old cars...
