Yes but speedometers only have to be within 10% accurate at 30MPH and generally over-read so the speedo was probably showing 38 or so MPH to be caught at an accurate 36 if you understand what I'm trying to say. That means that Hutch was travelling at nearly 40MPH in a 30 limit according to their speedometer. Without sounding dramatic, and from experience of being on scene of RTC's, I agree with James5599 that a few MPH can make a big difference to the outcome of pedestrian injuries. Take the awareness course with an open mind. I'm in the shed, I'll be back in the real world in a minute. |

having just been caught, i'm bringing this thread back to life..... Is there still the £100 fine and 3 points option? I thought you were fined based on the excess speed and your £income nowadays(?) Merc C220 estate Sport AMG Merc C220 estate Sport AMG 125 year edition Alfa GT Rover 76 V6 |

36mph means about 40% more kinetic energy in the vehicle than.at 30mph. As brakes convert energy linearly, that means a large increase in braking distance or you hit the pedestrian at higher speed from the same braking point. https://goo.gl/images/w7MVh4 Physics doesn't care what you think about speed limits. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |
