Oil filter, and oil question...

Hi Guys, I am expecting to collect my supercharged AB in one week.

Since it wont take long for me to finish breaking in the engine, i am preparing for my first oil change (already lol)

it seems to me that there are quit a bit of options on oil filter, they all have part number LR011279 but the price vary a lot. Do you guys always stick to the Genuine filter or is it ok to use the one made by Mahle? is it true that it needs 2 oil filters?

Also what engine oil (weight and brand) do you guys use? is it ture that the oil filter is cross reference to JAGUAR: C2D3670

Thanks so much!

If you want to keep the OE warranty, only use OE filters and keep a written record that the oil was exactly the brand and spec defined by JLR. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

In another life I had a business that supplied filters. No car manufacturer makes their own filters. If you want the same filter non OME I suggest you discover who makes the LR filter and Purchase from them at a fraction of the price. For oil you must use the same spec , in Australia warranty cannot be void by using other components unless they are sub standard. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

I would be surprised if they invalidated the warranty based on the wrong manufacturer of oil - as long as the specs were the same. Well, maybe it wouldn't be a surprise but I've previously supplied my own Oil (same specs) at services on my Merc, Audi, Nissans, Honda, VW with no issues and saving half the price. SVR with a few bits from Urban and Glohh

Porsche do.

When I bought mine back in 2005, I was directly told by Silverstone to use nothing other than Mobil1. Any issues with the engine and they WILL check the oil specification and WILL invalidate the warranty on the basis of a customer thinking they know better.

Why wouldn't they want to avoid splashing out a few thousand on a new engine and associated labour? Wouldn't you?

Thankfully when it spat a cam lobe in the fourth year, I'd invested in the extended warranty that saved me £2500 in engine parts and about a week of labour stripping and rebuilding my engine.

I hear Porsche also invalidate your warranty if you change the floor mats Smile

In answer to the OP's first question - My last service sheet shows 'Castrol Edge 0W20' was used by JLR. SVR with a few bits from Urban and Glohh

Talking about oil, would you say its a good idea to change the oil and filter after the first 1000 miles or a complete waste of money?
As an alternative to the castrol Edge SVR oil , there is this one Fuch Titan GT1 EVO 0W-20 svr approved a little easier to find as well. SVR 2018 in Santorini Black.

People get quite pedantic about oil and filters. Filters filter best when they are dirty?? However a blocked filter will cause the by pass valve to open and no filtration will occur. So for me if I knew the filter has been changed at last service I most likely would not bother. If quality and change is unknown then a filter is pretty cheap compared to the car. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.
