2009 RRS transfer case oil

Dear all

Been digginf the web as well as this honorable forum for info regarding alternative fluids for transfer case in my 2009 RRS as well as the rear diff fluid.

Some say to stay with the OEM and some others recomend so many other options.

Point here is, I have no instant acces to a OEM fluid hence, need to atick with any other sudgested alternatve.

What whould you recomende instead of the comercial oil brands to be fillñed in the transfer case? And rear diff as well.

Regards
Ray

I had the same problem and while searching I ran onto info about this product

RAVENOL Transfer Fluid TF-0870

http://www.ravenol.de/en/products/usage/d/...-0870.html

It has specification Land Rover IYK500010 needed for our boxes and it is much cheaper.

I hope this could help,

As far as I am aware, there are a few alternatives but they do not have the long life additives of the genuine stuff. It is fine to use the alternatives just need to change the oil more often. MY12 RRS HSE

I agree with shepp. This is good alternative when original oil is hard to find or not available, but more frequent change is advisable.

do you not have any LandRover dealers ?

I expect you will only change the transfer box oil once, so may as well use genuine LR

For Diffs use Castrol

I just use it after changing bearings and my intention is to replace it after short time to see condition. Anyway, my guess would be to check the fluid regularly and change it a little bit sooner than user manual suggest.

Motul do some excellent oils, usually far better than the original, just one thing to check is if it has the long life additives. The transfer box can
