Hello, I'm a new owner of a Range Rover Sport 2.7 HSE 2008. This is group is a joy to find . I'm thinking of a 're map by Superchips to give me an extra 40 bhp. Anybody have any views on this would be gratefully received.

For me it had to be a BAS remap.

Had a Superchips re-map on my old TDV8 and never had any problems with it, no smoke, turbo lag etc. and made a fair difference, but the actual bhp. and torque figures increase were somewhat lower than their claim, bhp was just over 30bhp. increase and their claim is around 50bhp. can't remember exact torque figures I think It was something like 100Nm increase and they claim 180/190Nm. The actual figures were the one's achieved on their own Dyno at the factory in Buckingham, but fair play to them they did offer to remove the map and refund my money, but as it did make a difference I just left it on.

I have a 2012 MY and took it to Alive. This can't be (or at the time could not be) done via the OBD port so was an ECU out job. (SDV6 3.0D as opposed to your 2.7 which I think can be done via the OBD port so that is quicker and easier). Have to say they did a great job, never had any problem since with it at all. Runs just over 300 bhp (256 stock), eg same as a new shape RRS, similarly torque increased but cannot remember the figure. But as this is the same engine and 8spd box in my 2012 as the new shape then is perfectly safe.

Makes it the car it always should have been. Marginally better fuel consumption if you drive carefully. Or more grins Banishes roundabout roulette. I find no need now to use flappy paddles unless totally caning it or indeed S mode either unless really fast cross country driving where S mode gives better engine breaking.

Done 2 yrs ago and 30k miles ago at circa 50k on the clock (now 80k and rising). Waited there while done, took about 3 hrs.

Whatever you decide I would go with a specialist like Alive or BAS, recommended by many on this site. Specialists in my experience are better, safer and experienced with the specific marque and model rather than more generic solutions. I took my old SAAB to Abbot Racing for the same reason and never had a problem.

Do not use any of the black box solutions. Get a proper remap is my advice. Tales aplenty here and on Saabscene of sub optimal results or worse from non specialist remaps or black boxes.

The other option, is get the likes of Geoff (Disco 3/4 forum sponsor) to take a look at the car for you and add the relevant remap.

The Alive map includes EGR blanking on EU4 at no extra cost
