Here’s the scenario.

3 days ago I bought a 2010 Revere Edition RRS Alaska white, 3.0 tdv6, 85k miles, full range service history.

I was driving home on the motorway when suddenly the car began to hold back and power was lost, I pulled over on the hard shoulder, it came up engine system fault and low battery.. I turned the car off and tried to restart it. The dash still said low battery. However the car would turn over fine but just wouldn’t fire up, still saying low battery. All the lights and windows work fine it just won’t come to life. It’s my first Range Rover that I’ve owned and I’m stuck as to the problem. Really hoping someone has experienced this before.

I thought if the alternator was bad the problem would of only happened when I went to start the car not whilst driving.

Any ideas/advice would be great.

Straight back to the dealer.

Give them the opportunity to rectify to your satisfaction (sure it’s fixable) or lawyer up and reject.

Crap situation at xmas but least you have options.

I agree with the others, it’s for the dealer to fix. And as you’ve paid for a vehicle, they need to replace it with something similar so that you have wheels over Christmas.

If you wanted to tinker, then I’d certainly be looking at the battery (strange that it will still turn the engine over) and the alternator. I bought a cheap tester in Lidl that will test both.

Check if the battery cables are fitted tight.

As it is a Revere modified RRS and these often have power upgrades against factory recommendation, check that if there is a power box or external chip unit that it is properly connected and working too. If it has a power upgrade then you may also find that you are uninsured unless you have declared it to your insurer. These engines don’t like power upgrades so if you have unknowingly been sold a car with a chip I would ask for my money back and start looking for an unmodified one. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
