Hi folks,

I am to drive to the Alps and once there, have my car parked in the open for 7 days/nights.

The temperatures there drops to -25C.

I get occasional Low Power Mode message on the car's stereo - hence my paranoid question:

What should I do to increase my chances of getting back from the mountains?

Do I disconnect the positive from the battery? Do I take the battery inside and keep it in the room?

The car is 2009 RRS TDV8.

why not just fit a new battery

As beerbelly says you need to fit a new battery

As you say disconnecting the battery is the easiest most effective way.
Just oil your emergency lock before you go


Other options are large solar charger
Or battery charger and extension lead 2 days before leaving

for now I plan on monitoring the voltage on the battery and on the alternator...the car I bought was parked outside for the good year or year and a half...so, I am a bit paranoid it could develop some problems rapidly.

I think I will stick to the plan of disconnecting the battery and thanks for the idea to use the charger - seems good thing to do.

Will investigate if the charger I already have will be sufficient for RRS battery...

For now, apart from "Low Power Mode" message (very rare occasion) and permanently stuck glass on the trunk door - all is fine!

...oh, and I had the pleasure of repairing the spare wheel winch, which I've managed to fault...but then repair following the advice from this forum...so thanks again!!!

Update: Battery was fine, no problems at all...no need for charger as I was making short trips to the store each morning.

Lots of snow & ice made me smile as car went thru everything effortlessly...winter tyres, no chains.
