If its a common fault,,even without a warranty at 30000 miles & just over 3 years old LR should put it right.

If the buyer of Tyrefitter’s old car took out finance then he needs to get he finance company involved asap. Land Rover will listen to them rather than try to scare off an individual, the buyer also need to get as many of the motoring magazines involved as possible, especially What Car? 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

As Tyrefitter states, I have just had my Enhanced LR warranty renewed at £1300.00 and on reading new "updated" booklet of cover etc, it still quiet clearly states that Crank is covered by the warranty, the purchasers solicitor should chase up using the wording of warranty. It is hardly the customers fault if something "common" breaks, (unless due to not following normal servicing and maintenance), this should therefore be covered, and this should also be taken up with trading standards and sale of goods act, as car wasn't fit for purpose when purchased. Also send story to Auto Express and Autotrader magazines which will publish and normally get a reply from manufacturer.

Warranties are designed to cover items that are faulty. Whether it’s a “common” fault or a one off is irrelevant. So if the item is mentioned in the warranty as covered then common or not it should be fixed.

I know of two friends who have had crank failures on this engine in RR Sport & Discovery, it is a known fault that Land Rover are aware of and have even paid for in full when the car is out of warranty.

I agree with Tim here. Make sure the magazine gets the bit about LR claiming it's a "common fault" too. Even the dimwits at LR won't want that sort of story in the mainstream motoring press. What amazes me is that LR think that "common fault" is an excuse. That is them effectively admitting that they don't make the vehicle to a high enough standard to be considered to be fit for purpose. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

I seem to remember you saying that you hadn't transferred the warranty immediately. Is that correct? The warranty booklet says that transfers should be done within 7 days (I think). I'd hate to think they might use that as an excuse... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

That is true,,it wasn’t transferred straight away, when I spoke to LR customer services they said it isn’t a problem changing warranty to new owner as it belongs to car not owner, but a 3year old car with only just over 30k miles shouldn’t fail like this,,the service was only done a few months before this happened & was done at a LR dealer,I could have done the service myself with being vat registered but I let LR do it just incase anything like this happened they couldn’t use that to get out of doing any warranty work on car.
