Tapping was probably a chunking stone trapped in your tyre tread. |

Stone caught in the tread and/or between backplate and disc?

Hmm... Might have been. Tap did sound more mechanical than stone road noise though, it was a solid tap. I thought drive-shaft initially. I do have AT tyres and there are a lot of stones around here. |

Does compressor make that noise? No errors on dash but I'll check IID

Pay n play a few weeks back and I had to go gently into a muddy field (low range, mud rut) on Saturday night to winch my tractor out again. Set everything back |

Could be that start of the EPB shoes getting filled up with crud! Sounds like similar symptoms to when my EPB failed. 2003 BMW M5 - 5 Litres of V8 Optimax Slurping Goodness in Carbon Black

Well from previous experience I think we can rule out the stone stuck in the tyre tread or something stuck in the dirt guard around the brakes. When I have had something stuck in the Defender’s dirt guard it has been more of a squeal than a ticking noise. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Maybe a big stone hitting the inside of the wheel as it goes round? Though all the stones round here are pretty soft |

That's not a stone, have you checked the rear drive shafts for reeds or anything wrapped round them ?
