Looks like the checker, or rather some database behind it, is screwy.

So when I checked it the first time, it was by using the reg number. (I’ve just tried it again to make sure I’m not doing something wrong). So just tried it by “Check by vehicle type” and I get:

On the full documentation it's has a funny way of putting it: "Charges will be carried out from your vehicle registration number plate, 08 and onwards on not chargeable unless the vehicle is listed on the list of vehicles that have to pay due to emissions output level" So as you say having a 57 plate but registered 2008 or 2008 model year won't make you exempt for some reason. Just appeal each time as not surely correct in Law, but watch out if over 210g emissions even if Euro 4, as they will get you that way. All speed cameras etc will have facility to take your details for emissions as well as the special cameras and congestion cameras.  John

To be fair, I live about 60 miles from London so personally I am very unlikely to drive into the centre (use the train). I would drive to the O2 Arena on occasions but am pretty sure that is outside the zone.

The weird thing is that my '73 classic car (Stag) is exempted from the T charge. Go figure. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

Don’t bother with vin number etc, if you just enter it as a car, first registered after 2008 (one of the options), then it tells you you’re OK

The TDV8 attained Euro 4 air quality standard at launch, so for the moment, it is an exempt car.

My daughter is riding at the International horse show at Olympia in December- we were advised to use a trailer to get the pony to Olympia due to the LEZ charges for horse lorries. £200 a day!!
Anyway thought I’d check on TFL website and surprisingly my 1994 L reg Ford Iveco 4 litre diesel lorry is free to take into central London Not sure how my horse lorry doesn’t spew enough emissions to warrant a stealth tax?? I’ll be taking a trailer anyway as I don’t fancy navigating central London in a 7.5t lorry
