Hi All,

I have been stalking the forum for a few weeks now since purchasing my 2010 RRS HSE last month and picked up some good tips.

Unfortunately on my way home from picking up the wife from the airport early this morning, the car lost all power and cut out on a round-a-bout. It displayed the "Engine Systems Failure" warning and now will not start.

I initially thought it was possibly due to lack of fuel as when filling up last week with 70l it read the tank was full it showed 26 miles range when it cut out, put 5l this morning and still no change.

After trying to start it several times it now displays "start engine low power". whilst i know this may not be related i have seen a couple of posts where batteries have caused multiple failure warnings...

any ideas would be gratefully accepted. Also recommendations on a reasonably priced diagnostic tool.

Try a multi meter across the battery terminals to see what state the battery is in and check the alternator out put as well also how old is the battery if its original it may be

Sorry if your going to buy a diagnostic tool then i would recomend the IDD tool not cheap but very good

5l will not touch the sides on these tanks. I had to put 25l in I was on a decline a bit. Check bleed valve under at back of engine to see if you have fuel pressure.

If it was low on fuel it would have spluttered a few times first before cutting out so doubt it's fuel unless something has failed(pump etc)

Mine didn't splutter just cut out. But there is a pump solonoid on the pump the ecu closes it when it detects a fault. Stops fuel been pumped into the engine. My car done same thing engine systems failure but I only had 2 miles on range. Put 25l and it's just started. I originally did put 5l and wouldn't start. You will have to bleed the system.

If you take engine cover off at the back you will see a grey cap. It looks exactly the same as a car tyre valve were you connect to blow up tyre. Unscrew the dust cap and push in the pin as if you were letting a tyre down there should be diesel coming through. If not it is a fuel related problem and will need bleeding. Get someone to turn engine over why you push in to let air out. If no fuel comes out after about 30 seconds then. I would say fuel pump has failed.

If you had 26 miles left that's well over a gallon left in so there should be enough fuel/pressure left in there to bleed it open the Schroeder valve at the back and see if fuel comes you need to release a quite a bit out,There are a few mods to be done with the IID not as many as with the pre-facelift but you can change stuff around and add things and turn on other stuff and really good for fault finding Timed climate for one

Strangely mine said 2 miles range. But when it broke down the range went to 28 miles. It's because the fuel float is at the top of the tank underneath drivers seat and the pump is at the bottom of tank underneath drivers side back bench. There like separate compartments. I no because I stripped mine down today. I had 5litres in tank and it didn't even touch the pump hardly. Put another 20 litres in and come up to about half way on pump enough to bleed car. There is channels at side of tank inside were the fuel streams down from the other compartment were fuel float is. I think that when you have went around the round about what little fuel you had left as went to back of tank. And caused pump to suck air instead of fuel.

Well it's off to a local Indy via the garage i bought it from tomorrow. didn't get chance to drain it as my wife went to bed.. feeling tired after her holiday
