20" wheel as spare .. can it go in the carrier?

My recently acquired 07 reg Sport was supplied without a spare, but with the gunge and a compressor instead ..

I get a bit twitchy travelling at the weekend and at night on thoughts of getting a ruined tyre .. so would like to get a spare ..

I don't fancy an "emergency spare" but I think I have seen that a 20" wheel can't be put in the spare wheel carrier or that it may damage the wheel ..

Is this so, or is it ok to carry a full size spare there?

Advice appreciated ...

Thanks

Yes the 20ā€ will fit underneath,,Iā€™m sure I read somewhere on here about someone putting a 22ā€ there.

On my pre-facelift I had a 275/45 x 20"" spare fitted underneath no problem, on my facelift managed to fit a 275/45 x 21" needed a small amount of work with rotary file but can be done.

Cheers

Thanks for the replies .. must make sure the mechanism works after 10 years of exposure, then look to getting a spare .. Green Top Rangey Bloke now, but still Disco Kid at heart
