If LR dealers are selling them as you quote at £2k under cap that must be the price, I can't see them selling for less than can be achieved. There are 812 RRS in the LR network at the moment, perhaps there is just oversupply and LR are prepared to sell cheap to try and clear them. Also why pay up when you don't need any more cars?

Let's not get into mass hysteria here. Used values are not plummeting and not dropping like stones. They are simply softening in line with expectations and the increased supply means the previously really strong RV's are now adjusting to the correct levels.

20% of a new car value is VAT which you should/will lose the moment you drive off the forecourt. So on a 85k car, the value is instantly £70.8k. Then factor in the depreciation, and after 12 months a trade price is circa £60k. There's nothin unreasonable about that at all. Depreciation curves are always harsh in year one on any car (bar specialist cars).

As I've said many times, LR used screen prices for identical cars have a massive spread on them, it's ridiculous. When I bought my RRS last November it had just turned 12mths old. From a screen price point of view it was at the very bottom of a ridiculous price range which had some identical cars at other dealers with a screen price of £8-10k more! So somebody who bought at the top of the spread will now have £10k more of negative equity to factor in than I do.

gilford - you say you went to see a 65plate AB yesterday at £65k.... well mine's a 65 plate AB, and the screen price last November was £64k, so the car you saw was hugely overpriced hence the seemingly big price drop they offered. But a quick look on the Land Rover approved used locator and there are many 65 or 16 plate AB's all screening between £58k and £65k, again a huge price spread.

As said, I bought mine last november on a 3yr PCP. The GFV set is £44k in November 2019, so a softer curve in year 3 and 4. If values are 'plummeting' then JLR will have cars being handed back left right and centre, and they will be in massive financial issues. It's in their interest to ensure they protect their RV's and margins. All this talk of them only offering CAP is perfectly fair & reasonable. SOLD - MY16 SDV6 Autobiography Dynamic - Fire Engine Red, Fixed contrast pan roof, TV, Dual Screen, 5+2, Privacy, Noble paddles.

Kmpowell you are right with some of your points but one thing I don't agree with is yes there is around £10k disparity on the LR approved used websites on 66 plate Hse dynamics with stealth packs & similar specs so by that logic there should be around the same spread on trade in prices as carwow Cap valuation tool states :-

"This is a guide price of what you might get from a dealer in part-exchange for another car, but many factors determine the real value, including condition and the number of previous owners. Our valuation tool is powered by CAP, the valuation guide used by 9 out 10 UK dealers"

My point still stands as everyone of the 8 dealers I spoke with will only go to Cap clean regardless so something is not right. One of the first things I do before contacting a dealer about changing my car is to check what they are actually retailing a similar spec & mileage model to mine for on their forecourt, then work it back from there. For instance a large dealer group beginning with s in the north east were doing good discounts as a member on here pointed out, I called them for a chat after checking what they had on their forecourt, they had a 66 plate Hse dynamic a few extras & similar mileage to mine but standard wheels & no stealth pack, this was retailing at £64k so I'm thinking they have £5-6k across this car so they should offer me at least £58-£59 but no they came back at Cap clean £54 then around 6 weeks ago, meaning they would have around £10k across my car! No way that is just greed, nearly every other dealer out of the 8 I'm talking about are the same, another branch of the s group did try & tell me they would only retail mine at £59 to make it the cheapest on the net to try & justify his £53k bid, these guys think people are zipped up the back & unfortunately if we do accept their rip off bids our residuals go down even faster as the next guy will retail at £58500 so his is the cheapest & so on.

They must not want to sell 1-2 year old cars for some reason?

Nah the dealers are rip off merchants. I got a part ex price on my 67 plate yesterday and they offered £55k but they had 17 plate with 8000 more miles on the forecourt for £69k (HSE Dynamic). Go figure that one out. I've no plans to change mine just cusiosity got the better of me. (This was a different company than he one I got the car from so had no idea of my discount)

Yes M13lky it was myself Who got a good deal from stratstone was made even better with the screw up they did on communication and interior colour etc.All in my list price should have come in at £74k and I paid £65,500. So even with that good discount would I hell take £55k for it. Also did a price on we screw any car price and they have just offered £50,600. I am very happy with mine just pleased I took on a PCP so worst case I just hand it back and start again. SVR Carbon Edition in Estoril Blue MY 21.5

Mark yes I tried them but it was total waste of time, I'm nearly there with my new one, we really like ours but if I don't go for the new AB now I never will.

Will put a post up when it's all sorted hopefully this week.

Andy your right, time to vote with your feet & trade them everywhere but into LR dealers, starve them of second hand stock then they will have to be sensible on trade ins, I know it causes a few issues for people down to one car short term, but if all goes well for me this week I'll hire a run about for a few weeks & still be £5-6k better off.

Just to add a bit of balance and fact to this thread, I popped into my dealer today to get an up-to-date valuation on mine. The car is 2 years old, 65 plate AB with 23k on the clock. I have the full report in front of me for November and it states...

CAP 'clean' - £52,500
CAP 'average - £50,600
GLASSES 'trade' - £53,530
GLASSES 'high' - £54,310

I paid £62k for it 12months ago, so a loss of circa £10k is reasonable. They estimated it will continue to drop circa £500-£600 over the next 12months.

So for all of you being given really low quotes, ask to see the CAP/Glasses value, don't just take their word for it, dealers are screwing you over. SOLD - MY16 SDV6 Autobiography Dynamic - Fire Engine Red, Fixed contrast pan roof, TV, Dual Screen, 5+2, Privacy, Noble paddles.

When I wanted to off load my MY16 66reg dynamic with spec upto rrp of £78k. My dealer could only offer cap so he offered me £54k after 12 months and 11k miles on it

However he told me that LR direct (ex staff cars/loaners) at the minute are asking £58k (price they have to pay to LR) for 10k cars with basic specs same age as mine. Which I found odd

In turn I got a trade bid from an independent at £59k and let them have it. It was on their website for 2 days and sold. They had it on at £64,995. I had it on private for 3 week from £63k-£61 and didnt get a sniff, only dealers saying it was only worth £54k

So I did 10.5k in 13 months and 11,000 miles. Not bad I suppose. Luckily I didn`t pay RRP for it and had a private loan for £20k. So interest was about £300 over the year

Like I heard up in the posts, I heard a few times. "We have to put it on and make it the cheapest on the net sir!" bulls@;t!!

I got an e-zine from my local LR and Jag dealership last weekend with the same offer, but it was offered as a Black Friday special deal.
