Limp mode..... restarted.... all fine now.. hmmm

Ive only had my tdv8 a week. just done a 400 mile trip in it. Well on the way home while travelling at 50ish i went to overtake and put my foot down when a engine fault came up on display and it went into limp mode.

I pulled over, turned it off, waited a couple of minutes then restarted. All was fine for the rest of the journey. I even booted it etc trying to see if it would do it again. no smoke, turbos kicking in, pulling well!

There was a message that came up on the display the last few times i started the car, but now thats even gone. no warnings etc now.

i have a 200mile journey to do this weekend..... hope its ok.

Anyone else had this issue?

Thanks for the reply.... The fault message has gone on the initial turning the keys to start. I have a 200 mile round trip to do tomorrow so fingers crossed it does it.

I had filled the fuel tank to the max for the first time since owning it.... Would that have put extra strain on the fuel filter?

Is there any way to read any fault codes on the display? Or is it a plug in tool thing?

Pulling the stored fault codes would give you a better idea.

The Gap IID BT is the tool of choice at approx £400 (worth every penny) but there are cheaper LR specific code reading tools available.

Thanks peeps for the replies.

So a sticky turbo actuator is a fix with wd40 ?

Just been reading through this forum and it seems to be the answer for many people.

Like I said, I only purchased the car a week ago, and before that it's sat on a forecourt for at least a month or two.

Hey Jampot

I have exactly the same issue on my 2012 and the dealer also getting air related codes. they change dout the air sensor on bank 1 as it was reading 0 so they guessed it was that, but still doing it. its going back again this weekend. did you manage to get it resolved?

Had diagnostic done on my TDV8 sport today. Code p023 - boost pressure fault. On further inspection a hairline crack was found on the offside inlet manifold.

So now just waiting for the garage to get back to me with a price for the repair. I gather it's a fiddly job. So will be £££.

Jam pot, you have had the car 1 month, if you bought from any sort of dealer then you should have some sort of warranty even if from a non-franchised dealer. Cracked heads don’t happen overnight...... it would be a good idea to have the bits Mikey suggested checked out at the same time, hose failures are common and relatively cheap to fix. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I have checked all the other bits out which are fine. I do have a warranty (warranty first) so will see if they will cover the inlet manifold.

The inlet manifold is made of plastic. It's has a hairline crack along it.

Had fuel filter changed, actuators checked and all intercooler hoses are fine.

Good news, 'Warranty First' have authorized the repair of my sport. Only 70 quid excess to pay. So it's now booked in for a new inlet manifold.

Really thought the warranty company were going to reject it as the inlet manifold wasn't on the inclusion list.

Had the inlet manifold replaced on the driver's side. Seems to have fixed the problem. Fingers crossed I get some trouble free motoring for a while Thumbs Up Bow down
