replace towbar lock

Hello All,

As you may know, I purchased a used RRS a few weeks ago.

Everything seems to be working at the moment (I hope that I am not talking too soon!!), but one thing that I have to get sorted is that the removable towbar is stuck.

The lock itself seems to be completely corroded inside.

I have manage to snap one key trying to get it moving again, and so I think that it is time to try and get a new lock for it.

I realise that people won't want to tell me how to remove the lock (for security reasons) but can you at least tell me if it is possible to change the lock considering that the towbar is locked ON THE CAR.

Thanks.

Nick

OK... so you are saying that if I buy a new one, I will not find that I cannot get the old one off.

As I said... I am not expecting you to tell me how to do it.

I just want to make sure I don't buy the new lock, and then find that I have to buy a whole now tow bar anyway.

Very easy to change, could hardly be described as "security" involved. Could prove a little more difficult if tow bar is actually stuck on vehicle.

Cheers

I have a spare unused lock - but you look a little bit too far away for me to drop it off Smile

I was taking a look earlier, and I simply cannot see how I am going to get the old locked lock off.

Would anyone be willing to give me advice? I don't mind doing it over the phone.

PM me if anyone can help.

Thanks ion advance.

Nick

Thanks to those that answered. I managed to get the broken lock off, but the previous owner had obviously left the tow bar on for so long that it was completely stuck in place.

With some penetrating oil, and a FBH i have managed to loosen it, and have now got it off.

I have tested putting it back on, and all seems fine, so thanks again for your help!!
