21" wheels on the L320 Sport

Hi
Another upgrade I done recently was placing a new set of original 2017 21" wheels and tyres on my sport. Bought for a grand which was a brilliant deal.
I had horrific experience of 22" previously when trying to change a wheel on the ride of the road. I never knew you could jack a sport that high!! So dangerous in my opinion.

Anyway I wanted a different look and I cannot believe how much better the car feels on 21 rather than 20's I had on the car.
Having just done a thousand odd mile round trip have never enjoyed a drive as much.

I'd recommend going for the 21's if you want the big wheel look but without the handling issues. Also you can get wheel off the ground if needed with standard jack in your boot.

Be interested to hear if anyone else has done the same.

I thought early cars couldn't handle larger wheels due to strain / stress on steering rack? I might be wrong so ignore me if so.... Visitor from fullfatrr.com

I have read the same warnings DrRob, that 21" & 22" can't safely be fitted on early MK1 models. Thumbs Up
You would also have problems with Insurance in event of claim, as not fitted to these models. John

I have run 21" wheels and tyres on my L320 for nearly three years and have had absolutely no issues with steering, brakes, transmission, suspension or anything else for that matter, it was not a issue with my insurance company either. In that time it has also been into main dealers for service/ mot etc. and they have never even mentioned it. It currently has a set 21" SVR wheels fitted. Not really sure where some of these so called warnings come from, as obviously in this day and age no main dealer at least is going to say yes it is o.k. to fit them if they were originally intended for a different model for fear of being held liable if anything did happen.

Cheers
Col

Hi Col, Are you on about early L320 generally pre 2008? As this was what LR warning notice ⚠️ was issued for. John

Sorry, my mistake I was actually referring to later facelift cars never gave thought to OP referring to earlier cars. Yes you are both right there was something about earlier cars.

Going back a long time now, but there was quite a lot of info/posts ref fitting larger wheels especially to early cars. I think one issue was that the rack was borrowed from the Jag parts bin.

Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.
