Having read posts here about engine failure etc I'd never own a LR without warranty

Although reliability appears to be much higher on Mitsubishi and Lexus I'd either sell before warranty expires or extend to take away that worry - Mitsubishi has 5 full/8 electric and Lexus is 3 full/5 electric (I've been offered another 2 full for £895 which is tempting)

I was nervous as hell about this "new fangled stuff" but I'm more relaxed now and stopped believing the scaremongering - was the same when I ditched the Landcruiser in 2000 and bought my first LR and I had a good run Thumbs Up Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Back in the 50s and 60s, I remember British Rail delivering goods from the station using articulated electrically driven flat-back trucks.

Yes, I mentioned them before, but the point about the BR lorries is that they were quite large - i.e. batteries could power serious commercial vehicles even in those days. (Granted they had a range of only a few miles! Laughing )

From the Guardian Shocked

Quote:
Will my diesel car lose value?
Probably, yes.

One car-buying website says bad headlines for diesels, which on average sell for £7,000 used, are causing prices to fall faster in value than before. Motorway.co.uk predicts that over the next year the average price of used diesel cars could fall as much as 15% compared to their current depreciation rate.

Good news for anyone who like me buys used.
I expect I'll change my car maybe 4 or 5 times before 2040. If diesels drop by an average percentage across the board, whilst my current car will lose some value, the replacement being newer and more expensive may attract an even greater saving.

They already have - tax on my Lexus hybrid was £20 if I bought one registered before April 2017 but I didn't so it's now £440 pa Big Cry

Tax on my PHEV is nil because it was registered before April 2017 but would now be £130 and £440 if I went for next model up with safety features Evil or Very Mad Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

thoughts on recharging vehicles.

The ideal place for electric vehicles is in town & cities, however, many people who live in towns do not have off road parking at their house & often cannot park outside their own house, so how will they connect for re charging? Will the footpaths be littered with extension leads running from the owner's supply, or will thousands of charging points be installed along the street as in the old parking meter days?
Just a thought. current 2015 hse dynamic, grey.

I see that. Looks like good ammo for the local yobbery to go along unplugging them or worse. And, who's paying for this? current 2015 hse dynamic, grey.
