RRS L494 Pano Roof Noises

Hey,

Is the L494 Pano Roof normally noisy ?

I have a loan car that makes a lot of noise whilst driving over relatively smooth surfaces towards the back of the roof where it is fixed.

Any ideas ?

Thanks

I presume you mean when closed, in which case no, mine is perfectly quiet (as is the car generally, possibly the most rock solid, rattle free, car I've ever had).

I think you'll find that a pano roof is fixed Donny. It would be a sliding pano roof if it moves. And the fixed pano in mine has never made a squeak, thank goodness.

Not a good thing if a fixed pano roof has "come loose" - only a few LR bodyshops are authorised to fix those , so I have read. A lot of the bodyshell's structural stength comes through the bonding of that slab of glass.

let's hope these noises are from the sliding cover? MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

So what gives the roof structural strength if it slides? Is there additional metalwork surrounding it?

sorry its a sliding panoramic roof

Makes a lot less noise when open but the noise seems to be coming from the back of the car which is weird . . .

When I had mine, I thought I had a rattle from the roof but it was actually the unfastened passenger seat belt against the cheap plastic B pillar trim.

I've been fighting with my sliding pano roof virtually since I took delivery of my car. It has always creaked over even the smallest bumps and yes it sounds like the noise is coming from the rear of the sliding part. The dealer has had 2 attempts at rectifying it but the creaking always returns. I find that regular squirts of WD40 around the perimeter of the sliding part and in the mechanism and regular opening/closing keeps the creaking at bay. I've come to the conclusion that fundamentally my roof a poorly constructed component and its never going to be creak free

Rather than WD40, I'd try a Special graphite spay is best thing to use, doesn't leave any residue or attract dirt etc. Quietens up many things like rise/recline armchairs etc, obviously not as good as finding the bloody fault causing the problem. John
