Hi there new to the forumimin the market for a range rover sport but i cant decide on which year is the one to go for the 2010 tdv6 or the 2012 sdv6 is there and info you guys can offer experiences are the 2010 tdv6 the one to go for or the 2012 sdv6 what are your tjiughts and reccomendadtions this will be my first range rover so any adive will be greatly appreciated

If you like a gear stick to pretend it's like a manual then go pre-2012

Or if you've got the budget as above, and realise you are driving a Range Rover and it's automatic then go for the rotary selector with 8 spd gearbox

Budget is sub 25-30k thanks for the replies guys i am interested to know if there are any major differences in drive functions addons made in the 2012 compared to the 2010 and also and common problems reliability issues is the sdv6 and rotary gearbox worth extra premium

I could be wrong but are they not basically the same vehicle with different gearbox, 6 spd vs 8 spd? Is the engine not basically the same lump but different tune, DPF filter and the other emission stuff?

The post 2012 ones have the electric one piece boot lid versus 2 piece 'up & down' on the pre-2012. They are both the facelift models so I'm not sure of any other major changes, but if the budget is there then the newer has slightly better fuel economy, power and being later then more issue's are likely to have been iron'd out.

If reliability is of concern then your budget is just inside what you'll find at an LR dealer which being an Approved RRS is covered by warranty - 2 years to decide if you've got a good one! From what I can gather the spec is similar with the biggest changes being on individual add-ons.

Apart from the one piece tailgate as mentioned, the radio/info/navigation display is slightly different on the 2012 personally I think it looks better. From a personal view I think the rotary gearshift is crap, fortunately my S/C retained the stick which also doubles quite nicely as a hand rest.

I have a late 2012 with the rotary gear selecter and think it looks quit neat and tidy in the centre consol. It took some getting use to as kept looking for a stick but you soon get that out of your head and the way the 8 speed changes and drives is fantastic. When looking for the car I wanted the latest model I could find with low mileage and from a main dealer for the 2 year warranty 2017 SVR. SVO Scafell grey Ebony interior

I thought it was the same ZF HP28 from MY2010 on?

Same gearbox in different forms, used by Chrysler, Aston Martin and BMW (spit)

Smaller engines used 8HP45 and transverse 9hp 50

All the previous extras as mentioned, the CD player now becomes a CD/DVD player which plays back DVD movies etc on front screen plus Digital TV Option. New range of outputs and number of speakers, maps is now HDD updated by USB stick but think this may be on earlier models to? The Dynamic drive virtually came on most models now, and is a great improvement. Became a option again from 2013. 20" alloys standard size 275/40/20 Tyres.

One piece electric tailgate open/shut* by RCU and dashboard button (*with simple mod).
8 Speed gearbox, a different type and ratios, with a rotary selector and Flapper manual gear change, better economy mpg, more BHP meaning better performance, later emissions specifications and modifications. LED lights (from 2010) Cornering lights (option). There are several more things, mainly not visible but giving a better car IMO. John
