Gents, Advice needed on replacing rear Brake dust shield on 2006, 2.7 TDV6 HSE

I have nasty squeal from the rear near side rear wheel, I know the dust shield on that side is badly corroded but as I was planning to upgrade the front brakes soon to brembo and clean and spray the rear calipers I have delayed getting it looked at.

Following a service I have been advised that in order to replace the rear shields the wheel bearing must be dropped off and bushes replaced so the price to replace the shield could be a good few hundred!

Can anyone help to confirm this is the case as I believe th fronts can be done with little issue so it's upsetting to hear these are a big job............and this bloody squeal is driving me nuts

what's causing the sequel ?

Is it touching the disc? bend it out the way ?

sure the caliper piston isn't stuck? is rear wheel hotter after a drive ?

I have had so many issues with the rear calipers sticking/grinding I have had the rear calipers changed twice in three years, I was told it was the dust shield touching somewhere but they have told me that replacing the cover will stop the squeal, it's only light metal so not sure why they could not push it back out of the way.

maybe its the parking brake.

The parking shoes could be mounted onto the "dust cover", I can't remember.

Perhaps get one of the mobile specialist mechanics on here to look at it? Bodsy or Woody32 are closest to you. Visitor from fullfatrr.com

You need to get that looked at by somebody sensible. Two sets of calipers in three years? I ran my L320 for 120,000 miles over 9 years and only ever replaced pads and discs (and metal brake pipes). Calipers were fine.

I don`t see why removing the backplates (if that is what you mean by dust shield) should be any more than stripping and reassembly. Not sure from memory if the parking brake shoes need to be removed. Probably do, but that is no problem either.

They do rust. And if all the parking brake stuff is mounted on it, it will need replacing sooner or later.

Calipers are a known problem. But yes, should have one required replacing onces

The the park break is attached to the dust/stone guards
To change the guards the wheel bearing needs pressing out that means the hub has to be removed so can Affect camber settings

I have just come back from a 400 mile round trip and found when I stopped for a break some of the wheels seemed to be radiating heat far more than others and this seemed to change between three wheels.

Not sure if brakes are binding, I think I will need to contact one of the lads, Bodsy or Woody32 to see if they can have a look, I need it sorted out as I intend on purchasing a caravan soon and don't like having issues with Brakes etc
