First RR Sport

Hello RR Sport lovers, this is my first post and a big one i guess...

I have read all the buyers guides etc and have deicded to jump in the deep end.

My budget is anything in the 8-10K range.

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/adv...amp;page=2
this one has caught my eye, along with another few on AutoTrader.

Would you say this looks like a good choice, or is all the added "bling" a concern for some of you, has it been ragged ?

Thanks for any helps or suggestions

Alex

Timing belt has been done according to the ad, but has the oil pump been changed at the same time? These require the body to come off and should be done at the same time (not a problem as it designed to be be lifted for those jobs) so check very carefully that despite the claim of "Full LR Service history" that the really huge jobs were also done. The blurb states it is running on 5V Spoke 19"wheels - the photos show what look like 22" Overfinch Olympus-a-likes (99% they will be fakes and may not even be rated correctly for the car), I would be concerned if it has run on those wheels as LR didn't design the suspension or steering to take bigger than 19" wheels without an uprated steering rack on 2005MY cars unless the HSE's optional Dynamic Response system was specced (that included the uprated steering rack, 20" wheels and the track electric hydraulic anti-roll bars). So check it has an additional yellow hydraulic oil filler at the front of the engine bay (for the DR system) - it has an icon of a car with curved arrows pointing left and right on it. Contrast roof was never an option on L320 RRS so ask if it is sprayed on or wrapped. It doesn't appear to have much added bling other than the wheels and the contrast roof. These cars can take big miles easily but with a huge towing limit they can also haul big trailers which isn't good for the transmission so check if it has the detachable tow hook inside the boot and open the small centre section of the rear bumper and look under neath too to see if the receiver and electrics are there and if they have been used a lot (there should also be a red plastic fillet in the receiver slot) Also a few do get used offroad so open all the doors, bonnet and boot, look in the wheel arches and also underneath for signs of mud in hidden places and for damage underneath. The ad claims it has handsfree phone system fitted - in 2005 this was a cradle under the centre cubby box lid and requires an additional cradle to fit any type of phone to fit (no longer available) - the BT may need an update to work properly with the latest smartphones though (can be done by member Bodsy) There may also be a chilled cool box inside the centre cubby (there will be a rocker switch on the front edge of the cubby box and there should be a plastic clip on holder/ divider interior lid in there.)
As FLRSH is claimed ask to see the history book or print outs.
For 2005 2.7TDv6 you should also be able to get the EGR's blanked off - check they haven't already been done as they can be troublesome. Also ask if the Turbo hoses have been replaced as they do perish and cause a drop in power 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I couldn't offer detailed advice like Tim, but I must say it looks very nice for the price.

(Tim, the pictures show it is fitted with a towing hook).

tHE PICTURES LOOK NICE

I note the roof and spoiler has been painted black.
and the rear pillars to match.

Understandable, as the lacquer does peal on the roof etc.

Not a fan of black wheels myself.

I don't really share Tim's concerns, but there is always plenty of money/repairs/maintenance to spend on a RRS

Bishops Waltham is a do-able drive to get my new pride and joy serviced by a specialist!

The this information is so helpful! i have spent the last 4 days just reading this forum Very Happy

How much does it cost to have them re-sprayed? or wrapped? I know it's a small thing but i know i would like a grey or black one with a beige interior. It would obviously be easier to choose a sound car mechanically with the interior i want and then change the colour at a later date.

I would never be able to tell a tyre difference from a picture! That kind of thing i'm not quite as savy about as of yet. If they are only meant to be 19 or 22" unless you have the DR does this mean it must have it? or can you just wack them on and make the car suffer as such

The Dynamic Response was an option on 2.7HSE's and is a desirable option to have as it makes the car handle much better in spirited driving on a twisty road, however it is a complex system that can give problems in a car's later life with fluid leaks and worn bushes in the ARB system.

With the wheel size if the sidewalls are really thin usually this means big wheels and low profile tyres. Biggest wheels that were OEM were 20" with beefy sidewalls so you could still go offroad

Regarding the tow hook - check it can still be removed and isn't corroded/jammed in place. There has recently been a technical service bulletin for removable tow hooks so it look like this car might not have had the replacement tow hook done for free....... 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I get AA cover through my bank, will definitely look into them giving it a once over, no matter which one i look at getting.

I have seen another for sale in Bournemouth area which offers a 3 month warranty, slightly more expensive but still within my range.

Second one looks nice. Have a look through the paperwork, see if you can judge how often it's had to go in for work. I just PX'd my '58 2.7 in which was on 109.000, and the ARB bushes/brake pads were pretty much an annual job at that point. I could see that on the paperwork before I bought it, but as they aren't big expensive jobs I didn't mind. Always worth looking though.

Also worth considering how important speed is to you. The 2.7 is slow. If you're not bothered, go ahead, but if you're used to something pokier you may want to consider the tdv8 or an SC. I had to get the 2.7 because I was rushed into getting a car, there was one down the road, and I did 85 miles a day commuting. Now that I work locally, I changed to an SC as soon as I could.

I ran my 2.7 for 15 months (22,000 miles) and it was a very good car, if you buy sensibly you shouldn't be disappointed Thumbs Up

Just my luck - thew one in Bournemouth is under offer! Sad

Will be calling back tomorrow to confirm if it has been sold or not.

Contact the one for sale on the forum - thanks for showing it to me!Smile

The model is an SE, which isn't a massive issue for me. However if i wanted to add HSE features if this easily do-able? Is the wiring etc their? just not used?

Secondly if having a new gear box a common thing to be done/replaced? Or does this mean it was a dud to start with

thanks again for all the help guys & possibly ladies...
