Halfords Servicing

I've just booked my car into the local Land Rover main dealer for a four year service.
The original price I was given was £655 including an MOT.
After taking a tip from a member of this forum I bargained this down to £500.

Just to satisfy my curiosity I looked on Halfords site and they show a price of £254 for a major service including MOT and "Fully Synthetic Oil Upgrade" if needed. ( I don't know whether this is needed on my car)

I have two questions ....... is there any good reason not to use Halfords and are we being overcharged by Land Rover ?

Halfords will not have access to the latest software upgrades and TSB's - I would go to your dealer or a local specialist LR Indie as they will know way more about your car than a Halfrauds fitter who is normally servicing run of the mill family cars and are not normally servicing very technical Land Rovers. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

I was going to say that exact comment too Laughing

Yes it does need synthetic.

These people usually do an oil change for less than a DIYer can pay for the materials and you don't get your hands dirty.

If only you could trust a garage to fit a RRS diesel oil filter correctly.

A few years ago they would do a change for £25 (on a family car). Clearly that was too much of a bargin and prices have gone up

Which member did you talk to about getting the service price down so much!? Think I need to have a chat with them too!

A mate worked at halfords autocenter for years, I went in a few times for a chat and they were a good bunch of lads working there. If it was something run of the mill, I'd consider using them, but the sport is way too specialist.
