Thanks for your help with your photos Tim. However, its not the easiest thing in the world to search for new wheels for my 19 inch tyres from just a picture. Are you saying that if they look like your pics then they will definitely fit? Does anyone know if wheels have a type (or model?) reference number (or a name or description) and if so what Tim's wheels would be?



Any thoughts gladly received.

just to melt your head a bit more why not put some 18" wheels on

have a look at "stevens" car that is for sale over on D3 cars for sale section he is running 18" wheels with Brembos

I admit they are not standard L/R and possibly the only ones that will fit.

shame you are not nearer or you could try the selection of wheels I have

Hmmm. I'm starting to doubt myself now. But what else could it have been that meant my wheels fouled the brakes? I'm rushed off my feet work wise at the moment. Hopefully it will get easier in a month and I can have a proper look.

For a fleeting moment I did wonder whether some sort of spacer might fix my issue. But it'd probably up something else if I did that.

If I am likely to be passing your way I'll give you a heads up in case the offer is still open. Cheers for the thought  Robin

The problem isn't the discs it is the calipers casing - there are two black plastic covers that stick up from them and they foul the wheel IIRC. Removal of them unfortunately is a non starter as they are dust caps for something (excuse the technical language!). 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

OK - I bit the bullet today and ventured into Harwoods, Lewes parts dept for a definitive answer . After some faffing to get my VIN and some clicking of a keyboard they pronounced that on my car the minimum size is 20 inch wheels.

So I might just try a specialist wheel place if I can find someone near me - just to double check - but it does seem that I may be putting the winter wheels and tyres up for sale again. Might get the slightly kerbed one repaired first though so that they are ready to go.

On a follow up note having just bought another 2 Uniroyal 20 inch summer tyres for mine I now have one fairly good "Goodride" 275/45R20 110H tyre which I plan to put up for sale. Might be good for a spare for someone who's fairly close to me and can pick it up. See my separate posting for details, photos etc. Robin

Strange. My 08MY TDV8 wears 19 inch rims quite happily over its Brembo calipers. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I would suspect that Harwoods have checked what "was fitted" and not what "could be fitted"

I think you need to jack up a corner and physically try a wheel to confirm, may be remove one of the wheels you know is ok and put something like playdo or something where you think the closest point is, spin the wheel and see how much clearance you have.

then try the 19" this time may be playdo the wheel where the spokes come to the inner wheel well, offer up and see what is catching

it could be the casting design of those wheels that have a larger radius from spoke to wheel well (there must be a proper name for it )

All you need now is the spare time to play "pit crew"

That's interesting Buckster. Had a look at them and noticed this comment:

Riverblanche - I did fit all 4 wheels, totally confident. But when I went to drive it there was an awful noise and the RES hardly moved at all. I suspected serious fouling somewhere and so quickly put my 20" back on. However, as you say, I should now proceed steadily - One wheel at a time and try and narrow down the fault. Not ideal where I live as I've a gravel drive and that's not the best surface to jack up even a quarter if 2.5 tons. But that must be the next step. However holiday beckons so it'll be a while. Robin

Phonic dampers are the plastic things I mentioned earlier 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

The Phonic Dampers are the rectangle blocks at each end of the caliper, held on with a allen screw I think. If you remove them you may well get noisy screeching brakes as they are dampers to prevent this, if I understand correctly.
