The results vary massively depending on the stock induction system and the design of the after market system. There are plenty of cars where replacing the stock induction system with a good after market system gains some power.

And worse of all, the oil filters are coated with can damage the air flow meter.

100% AGREE!!!! These mods just change the sound at best but will shatter MPG and wallet at worst. They tend to take in more hot air which is less dense and adds unnecessary heat to the engine. I've dabbled in it and really saw no point. Not worth it at all considering your air box is capable of venting WAY MORE fresh air into the engine than stock. As an example, the airbox of a 2002 Audi A4 1.8T engine breathes easily with it's stock 170hp setup but you can tune the engine up to 300hp without doing anything to the airbox OR it's filter. and it will perform just as well. |
