There was a good write up in autocar a few weeks ago and it talked about all the scare mongering going on against diesels and how it was pointless. It's only speculation for now as only the older diesels have been hard hit. No plans as yet for hitting new cleaner diesels with any additional penalties.

Good reading especially the last bit - Do's and Don'ts - I think this is really balanced view based on the facts to counteract the crap that is being spread around by media and online that a lot of gullible people are believing!!

If I recall correctly, the last scrappage scheme was a contribution of £1,000 or £2,000, which presumably you'd only take if your car was ready for the scrap heap in the first place.

Exactly. So most people won't scrap their vehicle and will be saddled with higher tax / road charging / some other thieving scheme as a result.

(Incidentally, the very word 'scrappage' annoys me - why do people keep inventing new words to replace existing - usually shorter - ones? What's wrong with 'scrap'?)

We do it just to annoy you. Really, that's the truth! Rolling with laughter

I just used "scrappage" because that seems to be the common term for these schemes these days. It is an annoying word, that's true, and I shall endeavour to desist in its use henceforth. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

That criticism wasn't aimed at you, I'm sorry if I gave that impression! Sad The culprit is the government or the media or some other source way above our 'pay grade'! Confused

Isn't it "decommissioned" or "paid off" or are those different things altogether? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
